My friend wants to know a good DVD ripper so he can digitize his collection. Any suggestions?

If we are talking free, the best was DVD decrypter, but it is nolonger updated so all the new protection is impossible for it to get around without using other programs.
I use Decrypter with a program called Ripit4me that handles cracking the encryption and such. It used to work no matter how i ripped it, but lately it has been giving me problems when ripping straight to ISO and not the file mode. |

I got something, the issue more was compression than playability. Way better to have a 700 meg divx file rather than a 3 gig vob.
