Oh I know. But most people don't realize that.

I figured you did, was just explicitly explaining the reason for the unwashed masses.

if I would have known about how lame ipods were before I bought one I never would have...

I'd never seen nor used one before I got it, I just "heard" about it.

it's a typical apple "claim we're going to revolutionize the world" product that is basically crap in reality.

Your iPod will most definitely go bad if you knock it around and drop it and shit, its just like an external Hard drive with software to play music. This holds true for MOST high-capacity MP3 players. Hard Drives are sensitive devices and weren't really intended to be "mobile" like described. As explained before this is why the Solid State memory ones are much more reliable.

So if you want your iPod to not suck be very careful with it and it should work okay.

It still doesn't answer why everybody is willing to pay those stupid prices for a product with such a high failure rate, and bad compatibility with multiple PCs unless you reflash it.

I thought the software on the device was pretty cool, and the fact that random function would weigh the songs based how their "popularity" to the user. I bought a dell dj 20 for 100 bucks two years ago, worst buy I did. Flash is def the way to go.

I think I read somewhere recently that solid-state storage will replace the traditional hard drives the next time they revise the "regular" and video iPods.

It's likely, though, that it's either total bunk or I misread.

everybody I know with an iPod...whether they are careful with it or not...has problems with it freezing or with the software.

No doubt in my mind that I would buy a Creative or an iRiver instead.

I guess I should probably note that my iPod Nano is over a year old and I've never had any problems with it at all.

yeah, but if its anything like their computers...dell will buy parts from everywhere else for super cheap and then use these parts from everywhere to build one thing.

When I worked for CompUSA corporate sales here in Austin, Dell was buying over a million dollars worth of computer parts from us a year. They were our biggest account.

I dont know if I was supposed to say that. OH WELL HAHA
