I don't think it's a double-standard. The NPR forum has typically been more strict in terms of what is and is not acceptable. I think Zach's actions were perfectly justified under the rules of NPR: http://www.techsans.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=78.

LRAR and Off-Topic are undoubtedly the most laid-back forums and very little is moderated in either. NSFW stuff is fair game in LRAR and crude humor is acceptable in both. The vast majority of offensive stuff is posted in these two forums and, subsequently, is not particularly susceptible to moderation.

Most of the forums have a thread with rules for the forum. If we need to revisit any of those sets of rules (or the general rules, posted in the Announcements & Feedback forum), we can certainly do so, bearing in mind that there's unlikely to be much change to the modus operandi for LRAR and Off-Topic.

oh really? I think this is a bit more tragic than an amber alert that was called off. but because no one here knows those involved, it's just shits and giggles...this was in NPR...the "moderated" forum...and it bothered me greatly. but instead of bitching about it, I just figured fuck it, and let y'all have fun. if I were a Mod, I would not have edited anything in this thread, even though I was bothered.

mother microwaves baby

double standards usually aren't apparent to those who have them.

it's not drama. it's just the first time I've witnessed anything on here being off limits.

I like techsans the way it is...immoral, corrosive, etc...or should I say, I like forums to at least be consistent.

being able to shred that girl who was killed by her dad because the "thought" she had sex, or mom's microwaving babies is fine, as long as they don't live in lubbock?

got it!

Yeah, I agree with Cupcake. Not that I have been sacred and holy, but I think it to be absolutely disturbing when a tragedy happens and there are people poking fun. I remember posting a story about some women who killed a pregnant mother and then killed her other three kids and left them in the washer and dryer. People were poking fun like crazy. That story still sticks in my head as one of the saddest things I have ever read.

I think there is just a point where its time to grow up and realize that its particularly immature to poke fun of everything. I dont know. I hate going into threads about the Iraq war because thats a somewhat sensive topic for me and I know that Im going to read something that offends me.

I guess I started to realize the stupidity of it all when someone posted pics of my cat dead. Call me two-faced, but I guess thats what it took

I actually wouldn't be suprised.

'suprising' is opening a techsans thread and finding it edited for tastelessness. who'd ever heard of such!?

Who here actually thinks that anyof those posts about ANYTHING on here are ever serious?

That being said, any of the other posts on here are for the sake of our twisted sense of entertainment, however, Zack knows those people and the post was ment to keep people on alert in case they saw it, because, unlike any of those other things we make fun of, someone very legitimately could have seen something or called in the cops if they thought they could help. in this case it is very much in Zacks power and intrests (helping a family he knows) to delete those comments so that anyone who checked in on it could get what the origional post was about, as opposed to seeing a shit-ton of irrelevent asshat remarks and disregaurding the topic as being a big fucking joke instead of a legit emergency.

Is it a double standard? To a point yes. But can ANY of you say you wouldnt do the same thing if you thought it would help someone you knew get their kid back.

Some things are more important than our entertainment.

QFT.

I really couldn't have put it any better myself.

If the original post was meant to be an extension of the Amber Alert, and not just a normal NPR news item, then I think perhaps it would have been better served going under the local events forum?

Oh, by the way, I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ so please delete any and all negative references to him. rolleyes.gif

in zach's defense, I can't think of a single post he has made in the past 3 months that has been graphic, disgusting, or in poor taste. While some posters, *cough, Brandon* *cough, myself* *cough, Nick* *Cough, dogmeat* *cough Charlie* *cough Lance* *cough Glenn* *cough Zetech* *cough Will*, do make inappropriate comments and post unwarranted graphic materials, Zach is not one of them.

Therefore as a clean mod who was personally affected by the situation, I feel he had more right than anyone to remove the offending material.

i wasn't talking about you. i know zetec does it all the time, which is ironic because he's contributed a lot of fucked up stuff on here.

Point taken. My first comment in that thread was in terribly bad taste. Honestly, I wouldn't have been offended if someone had deleted it, deeming it off-topic.

THings that CAN NOT be talked about on this site:
Anything about lance, including but not limited to:
1. Commenting about his posts in NPR which hurt the forum.
-Saying anything about other people's comments in that forum would be ok.
2. Making a joke about a new "girl" on the forum by stating females don't exist on the intranet.
-Since it happened to be his new mate that = wrong.
3. Arguing a contrary view that lance found stupid (Grant)

Lance is owner so, meh, thats how it goes. Don't piss off the man with power, so thats just the way of the world.

Other than lance we mostly see mod abuse when it is something that effects the mod in question.
-Zetec editing posts because he disagreed with someone (impala i think)
-NPR editing because the baby in question was a friend of his. (the comments were still ABOUT that kid. Actually i dont know what the comments were about.. i didn't get to read them)

Im sure there is more, but yeah, if you didn't realize there was a double standard you have to be blind. Certain people get by with more, and some people are impervious to jokes because of who they are.

Why else has all but like 10 people been left over the years?
