I really like this proposal. It's too bad it probably won't get enough support to pass because both sides are too busy sticking to their own ideologies to let it pass. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! "meaningful and substantial progress"... yeah, they're going to need to define that before I agree that this is a good idea.
It could mean that they want to see no car bombings for 3 weeks straight or they pull out. Or that no American troop dies after June. Or some impossible to predict and prevent occurrence. The Democrats are conflicted. They want out of Iraq, but they want to win the Presidency. If they vote to pull out of Iraq and all of the sudden things get better, then they will be seen as the wrong people for the job. However, if they do not do anything about the war then they are seen as useless (hence the nonbinding resolutions, great ways to look busy). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

take this line of thinking and apply it to WWII, and you'll see how incredibly stupid it is.
i've said it before and i'll say it again, wars are not fought on a schedule. you do what needs to be done, no matter how long it takes. |

I thought this was humorous:

First, no more youtube
Secondly, I read an article in the new york times that said they wanted to pull out by march 2008 not august I don't know if setting a specific time table to pull out of Iraq is the best option. While I don't agree witht he situation in Iraq, the United States has created a huge problem that needs to be resolved. Withdrawling from Iraq prematurely could have lasting impacts in Iraq and the surrounding area. The last thing that America needs is for Iran to futher destabalize and take over the area after we pull out... -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

Well, the deadline can always be extended. The government's really good at extending deadlines because they didn't do their job right.

I think the single biggest mistake made about Iraq is not having a fucking draft before we went in there. We should have put 500,000 soldiers in there.
And before you tell me "yeah easy to say when you won't go", yes, I WOULD have gone had I been drafted and I wouldn't have tried to get out of it. Wouldda been scared shitless but I woul dhave gone. heh We needed to just completley kick the shit out of that country and everyone in it instead of trying to fight these god damned small scale police actions and then call them wars. We needed to just completley DOMINATE over there and we won't for fear of being politically incorrect -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I am glad there is no longer a draft. As it is most of the soldiers we have over there are under the age of 25. I can only imagine how many incompetent, uncoordinated young men we would have had to sacrifice against their will if there were a draft. Some people are not meant to be soldiers.
