I'm not really sure I understand what you're getting at and I honestly don't think you do either. For what you say to be true, there would have to be a correlation between sexual abuse and sexuality, which there isn't. I mean sure, upbringing does have a huge effect, but it has a huge effect on everything psychologically. It's like saying that schizophrenia isn't as big a problem because some people can deal with it better due to their upbringing. I do understand what Im getting at. I'll lay it out in statements. Duane said: Suicide among gay teenagers is higher than among straight teenagers due to the anxiety associated with coming out and/or the response of the teenager's peers (ie ridiculing) I say: There could be other factors associated with the increased suicide rates in homosexual teenagers. In other words, not the fact that they are homosexual but what led them to that lifestyle. What percentage of homosexual teenagers were abused as children? What percentage of homosexual teenagers did not receive adequate bonding time with a same-sex member of their family? I could ask a bunch of other questions....but hopefully by now you catch my drift... Maybe the stress associated with coming out of the closet causes higher suicide rates OR Maybe there is a underlying cause-and-effect relationship between the upbringing of homosexual teenagers and suicide rates. Maybe correlation was the wrong term... I substituted it with cause-and-effect relationship |

My Dad went to college at USF. One of his friends there worked in a bank in San Francisco. His gay boss gave him shit because he was the only heterosexual teller there. He got bad reviews because of him. His boss apologized to him right before he died of AIDS, but he had to eventually move out of the Bay Area to not get harassed.
yes, gays and minorities are abused in society. In the lions den though, its often reverse that. On the border towns and in SF, the roles are reversed. The problem is that these are the people that are usually most accepting of the differences are the ones abused. This may be what Jessica was trying to get at. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

Maybe correlation was the wrong term... I substituted it with cause-and-effect relationship All I can really say is you can't understand it because you didn't live through it. I had a shitty upbringing, and I never thought of suicide. I had a friend who had a GREAT upbringing, and he didn't just THINK of committing suicide....HE DID IT. I've always been very headstrong about who I am....some are not so lucky. Imagine being barraged day after day with the message that as a human being you are evil....you're sick in the head. It will drive you to do some fucked up things. Some people don't go for suicide....some instead go for drugs and risky sex. Also, I am tired of hearing being gay as referred to as a lifestyle. Do you consider your loving of the opposite sex a lifestyle? Is everything you do in relation to your love-life? If you wanna talk about lifestyles, then you think of it as a gay man who decided to be a partier and druggie.....or a heterosexual girl who decided to be a slut and sleep with every man she sees. THOSE are lifestyles....your sexual preference is NOT a lifestyle. Let me clarify, because you can RE-READ what i typed....I never said, "Suicide among gay teenagers is higher than among straight teenagers due to the anxiety associated with coming out and/or the response of the teenager's peers (ie ridiculing)" I said that suicide rates are higher amongst gay teens. I never put any "due to" clause in there. I merely put the two conditions there....you drew the conclusion for yourself. And in all honesty, even if you went out and ran an experiment as a 'lesbian' you wouldn't have it quite as hard...because girls who are gay are certainly more accepted than two men who love each other. |

Gays are definitely just as capable of being assholes....it's just like being a kid in Elementary school.....when excluded from something, some choose to further exclude others to return the favor. |

That's semantics...
the words gay and homosexual are interchangeable....just as heterosexual and straight. Being who you are is not a lifestyle choice. But, nonetheless...enlighten me on how you see gay as the lifestyle. |

Well when I use the term lifestyle I'm not using it like the political understanding of it that most douche head conservatives use. It's more technical.

I see your point....however to me, as a gay person, I don't see being gay in itself as a lifestyle....I see the specifics of how I live as the lifestyle....so if I decided to be a partier, thats my lifestyle.....if i decided to find a single man and settle down, thats my lifestyle. Make sense?
I personally don't like the term homosexual/heterosexual, because it implies that everything boils down to sex... |

But all of the lifestyles we're thinking of have specific words to describe them. Druggie, Partier, Foodie, Hooker, Junkie, Bum So what is used to describe someone who settles down with a single man? Cocklover? I honestly want to know so I don't offend someone in the future. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good.
