When you only make 25k a year, taxes hurt a lot more.

what's the opposite of sympathy? because that's how i feel. not making any money? how about apply yourself and move forward.

this country shouldn't be an open bar, it should be byob. HSAs and private social security accounts are the way to go.

haha, typical simplistic conservative response

Life is more complicated than simply "applying" yourself

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

hey charlie how long have you been completely supporting yourself? by supporting yourself I mean that you pay all of your expenses with money that you yourself have earned. just out of curiosity.

wow, excuse me for not wanting to pay for some crackhead single mom's food stamps. i love getting asked for spare change every other day when i'm trying to walk from driveway to front door. ironic because i'm probably in a worse financial situation than any of them are.

my parents had nothing when i was a kid, but look at that, 22 years later and they're on the way to being financially stable. wow, it's almost as if hard work and determination (and being white, am i right?) gets you somewhere in life.

speaking of simplistic and typical, i think you might need to go to the hospital, as your heart is bleeding all over the place, hippie.

and no, i said sympathy. it would be empathy if i actually cared enough to take the time to look at the world from their eyes. i'm "unsympathetic" because i've got better things on my mind than other people (it's true!).

Touchy touchy laugh.gif

Calling me a hippie is compliment! thank you sir!!! tongue.gif

Crack heads are miserable excuses for people, but they are still human beings who need help with an addiction. Remember, I am not talking about people who do not work. I am talking about people who work very hard but just don't make very much money.

Btw, You did not answer Jenna's question...

Whoops, I did not think Empathy sounded right.

well my mom was a single mom but she was not a crackhead. I do agree that alot of people abuse the welfare system, but for the 6 years that my family was on it, we did not. My mom went back to college to get a degree at 38 and put my family severely in debt as a result. By my family I mean myself, my sister and her because no one else wanted to help us. When we went to try and apply for government housing, we were denied because we did not represent the "ethnic" interests of the program. I'm not saying all this to be a bleeding heart, cry-for-me, hippie. I'm saying all this because no amount of "applying myself" has ever been enough to get my family out of debt. My sister has worked regularly since the age of 12 and I have worked since age 16 semi-regularly. I don't care how much you don't care about other people, but if you genuinely don't care about other people then don't criticize or comment on their situation because you clearly have no interest in actually understanding said situation.

that said, I have no personal qualms with you.

ah jenna, i did not see your other post until now. i didn't say i was totally self-reliant, but i've paid for everything that would be considered "extra" since i've been old enough to work, including at least 75% of college. full-time in high school and every semester until now. i understand what it takes to pay for college, both my parents did the same thing as your mom (though as you explained, it's clearly more difficult with just 1 parent).

hmm, good point.

i have no personal qualms with you either. i do, however, with whoever hasn't posted those videos of you crab-walking up the stairs at the party >:(

The definition that I go by is that of Robert Dahl's "On Democracy." Read it sometime, might open your eyes a bit.

Is it better than Tocqueville's Democracy in America? Because good god, that book was boring.

This is not just in response to this post, but as a response to most of the posts you've made thus far:

WOW.

I am pretty sure I disagree. Though explaining why to someone who has clearly made up their mind on how the world works would be vain. I am just thankful our politicians are not equally insightful as you.
