Why? The best explanation in the world would not change your mind of what you already believe as truth.

i'm just interested in why you guys seem to think finding a 6 million year old human disproves intelligent design. i didn't realize that the only reason for debate was to change people's minds.

I don't think it does. I think it disproves young earth creationism, but not creationism/ID in general. I don't believe in ID, but this certainly doesn't disprove it. *shrugs*

everyone knows that aliens genetically engineered humans and left sequences in our DNA that are tripped by certain chemicals, LSD, dimethyltrypamine (DMT), THC, mescaline etc. that reveal secret messages to us, geeze louise, you creationists and evolutionists are frickin' retarded

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

They wouldn't have used carbon dating for something 6 million years old, as carbon dating is only good up to 45-60k years. However, there are other forms of radiometric dating. Uranium-lead dating, for instance, can date things from 1 million to 4.5 billion years old. It wouldn't be used to directly date organic remains but it could be used in combination with stratigraphy.

Just a quick note. Carbon dating can theoretically date things to 45-60k years, however, at those dates it is highly unreliable and not used as "scientific" in a lot of circles.

We used carbon dating and uranium-lead dating at Shell and I preferred to look at results that had gone through the uranium-lead process for the simple reason that they were a bit more reliable (though no perfect). The way we were taught to use results as mere theory and not as something concrete.

Yeah, that's true. Different dating methods are more reliable for certain ages of things. I was just wanting to point out that there are more kinds of radioactive dating than just carbon.
