no...unless you are a soviet purest/collector, fuckin get the cheapest AK you can find and go shoot it. it will not let you down.
some people get far too wrapped about yugos vs. romanians, vs. argentinian... kalashnikov's design is inherently brilliant in that it is military (read: cheapo, mass production)...it's made to be able to allow for flaws in construction. just like browning's 1911. that same allowance for flaws, is also the thing that allows them to shoot when full of dirt and muck. loose tolerances are ideal for combat weapons. for example, take a tightly fitted, custom kimber 1911 to the range and it's like a laser beam. take it to the field for a week, and you have a frozen paperweight. |

QUOTE you also gotta take into account the shock the body would be absorbing with those shells. the warhammer in medival times was the bane of the armored knight. often timed it would never penetrate, but the shock of each hit would rupture organs. no I got it. that's why I was saying how deep those slugs went. it would fuck your world up. |

no I got it. that's why I was saying how deep those slugs went. it would fuck your world up. i'm a mossberg loyalist, heh. but i want this one for my own customization, i would prefer to have the front grip with a flashlight, but i'm afraid what the cost will be. right now i know i'll be getting the heat suppressor, SPAS style vertical folding stock with pistol grip, matching front pistol grip, 6 shell side saddle carrier, and debating of the 5 shell carrier on top of the folding stock, with the exception of it missing the side saddle carrier, this is what my new toy will look like:: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SHT025-1136-2159.html prolly gonna leave the top one off though. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SHT003-44911-2159.html (side saddle carrier) -------------------- |

I've never fired one. But Germans do make good shooters (I have a mauser)...and historically it was supposed to be nice.
my only problem with it is the 9mm. but if you like the round, I say go for it (esp. at that price). |

What are your critiques of the 9mm round? But yeah, the price is freaking sweet for a nice sidearm. -------------------- |

edit: preface is warranted...I am talking about the 9mm in a combat handgun role (which is what the P1 is).
I think it has it's place, don't misinterpret that I hate it. I think it's nice in that it's cheap to shoot, and accurate. I do not think, however, that it's uses in a combat sidearm role are analagous to the .45 (which the govt and many others do). in any kind of closed-environment, i.e., for cqb, ship takedowns, GOPLAT ops, I can think of no better weapon than an MP5 (9mm subm.). The low velocity of the round is perfect for not going through walls and with the 30rd mag you have plenty of bullets to not leave you hanging. however, for a personal defense weapon (which is all a pistol really is...I mean if you're using it for offense, something has gone very wrong), I like a larger round for sheer knockdown power. it's just a personal preference. some guys (like downed pilots) like having more rounds in a mag. the beretta 92 that is common issue holds 15. perfect for them. I honestly didn't care either way until we got slotted to MSPF and started training with the big boys. they carried these frankenstein'd socom 1911s, I was sold on the .45 as a combat handgun round. all socom forces carry the .45, everyone else in the US mil uses the 9mm. both will kill something dead. if I were you and didn't care either way and wanted a cheap shooter, I would snag that P1. I'm in the market for smaller caliber conceal like 9mm, so understand I'm no .45-only nazi. |

psyko, i wouldn't feel bad getting a 9mm. combat is one thing, self defense and plinking is another. a buddy of mine has a Ruger P89 9mm, 15 round clip and fairly cheap

Yawn
-------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
