The media seems to love Chavez. I was wondering, what has he done that is tyrannical besides take one step closer to becoming a dictator? It's been reported his people love him.

I work with a guy who is Venezuelan. He said that more people hate him than is reported, but many are afraid to speak out, irregardless of Chavez's purported promise to protect freedom of speech and the press. Chavez is doing nothing to help the poor besides making them totally dependent on handouts from the government. He isn't creating jobs, just more handouts. He's breeding a mindset of apathy to legitimate economic practices.

Giving that much power to one individual is absolutely disturbing and goes in complete contest to the basic governmental/civil rights of man.

Who cares?

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

If oil drops in price, their economy is kaput. He has some good ideals, but everyone is going to take the handouts and not the mythical proletariat.

I don't foresee oil prices dropping anytime soon...

A place that I was supposed to go for a few weeks for my new job was Venezuela, needless to say, that's been dropped, as has Yemen. (YAY!)
