How's the Rock Island .45 holding up? I'm tempted to order one. Also, how does one order from that website? Do you go a a local dealer and have him order it from the site or what? -------------------- |

ATTN: Cupcake How's the Rock Island .45 holding up? I'm tempted to order one. Also, how does one order from that website? Do you go a a local dealer and have him order it from the site or what? FUCKING UFCK FUCK FUCK!!!!!!!!!! I just spent ten minutes typing out a long ass in detailed intstruction for you and it died on me. fucking fuck your site in its fatblackass lance! in a nutshell...find a gun shop in LBK and ask the dude how much a transfer fee is. should be around $25. if more than 30...find another shop. at that point you can probably tell him exactly what you want, the phone number, company name, all that, and he will order it for you. I have heard that some shops just give you their info and you have to acll it in, but man I've never had to do that. I do suggest calling the online dealer himself and telling him what you want, and what local dealer you're using so he gets the order straight in case dipfuck at the local shop dicks it up. an fyi...people have caught on and they're selling like hotcakes (I have no idea what that metaphor means)...and the factory has increased NEW shipments by $40. there are still older run ones in gun shop stock that will be cheaper though. but the new factory shipment going price is $379 (confirmed from armscor pres.) last word...google other online gun brokers too for perhaps a cheaper price. I found some on GUNS AMERICA (FUCK YEAH!!!) for $309. as to how it's holding up...I'll post an initial outing range report that I wrote for another site below.... |

Took my new GI Rock to the range yesterday. Been reading this forum about a month now and have to admit I've had an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach after reading about some people's FTF, FTE, FTRTB, etc.
But I like to be the judge myself, so I picked up 3 boxes of different ammo and headed out. Remington 230 FMJ Wal-Mart Blazer Brass 230 FMJ Independence 230 FMJ The Rock cycled all 150rds flawlessly. In fact, it was deadly accurate at 15yds. For some reason the Remington fired noticably higher/left sloppy groups, whereas the cheap Blazer Brass was spot on and tight...so much that very little bullseye black was left visible after 25 rounds. The Independence was somewhere in between...tighter groups than the Remington, but still just a little high and left. Dropped 11 out of 150 outside black. 8 of those were the Remingtons hitting left. So I just started aiming to the right and were on. The remaining were shooter error. Fine with me...cheapo Wal-Mart ammo it is! Twist my arm... Reliability thus far...impeccable. The intangible aspect of this first outing was how satisfying the weapon is to fire. As you know this ain't my first rodeo as far as weapons systems are concerned... But I have to say after the first magazine I had a "warm-fuzzy" about this gun that I don't always feel. Last time I felt an immediate affinity for one was the first time I fired the rev'd up M14 (SOCOM 16). Pretty good company if you ask me. Understand that this is my first personally owned 1911, but previous operational experience includes a MEUSOC 1911, Kimber TLE, and some type of Colt Commander variant. Aside from the sights and grips, I'd have no qualms about putting this Rock up against them any day. Sights and grips... The sights are what they are...stock GI. Some people love them, but I prefer them to have a more pronounced sight picture. However, I am grateful that they came stock...because I like how the bare Rock leaves that very personal mod up to the particular shooter as opposed to force-feeding a "good" sight to you. The sights were true, and in the shooting range setting obviously worked just fine because it hit black, it just took some getting used to and was more strain on the ol' eyeballs than say novaks. Same with the grips...they look pretty. But feel so-so. I definitely wouldn't use them for wet-ops. But again...in a range environment work just fine. I am glad they kept the price down by not locking you into a fancier grip. Grip replacement...no sweat. Please do not read the points about sights and grips as negative. Not at all, in fact they obviously weren't large enough factors to take away the enjoyment and peace of mind I have after putting 150 true rounds through it. In my fairly comprehensive experience, dollar for dollar ($334), I can honestly say that this is the best weapon system I have ever fired. Next outing I will check out how it cycles hollow points and wadcutters. Til then...new grips are on the agenda. |

personal preference isn't vain at all.
personally, someday I would love to have a SS 1911. only thing is if I got a bling gun I would want it to be a tier one shooter...not a $350 gun. you know? I really like the bare-bones military/parkerized finish. the older it gets, the radder it looks. I mean the G.I. model is what it is...a basic reliable lead slinger. that's about where it stops. But it's a cool way to get into 1911s for cheap. If you really fairly cheap SS 1911, check out Springfield's GI model...it's real pretty and around 500 bucks.
