I don't know how many of you are keeping up with this but the iPhone looks pretty damn cool. I don't care if you don't like Apple or not, once you see this thing you should be impressed.

it is very sexxy. the $$ is not very sexxy. I do agree about the price tag. It does have an 8GB harddrive in the $599 model and that includes 2 years of service. Will be interesting to see how much service will be after those two years. Apparently Apple will be the main support provider for the phone as well. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I think it looks neat. Hopefully they dont develop shitty software that will completely ruin the experience like iTunes did with the iPod

I don't think it includes 2 years of service....its part of a deal where you agree to a 2 year contract ?
Unless I'm terribly mistaken. The ability to have a REAL browser looks nice, but that price is just ridiculous. Plus with everybody I know having their iPod's shit out on them, I'd be way too leary to spend that much. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

i like the ability to view your voicemails... other than that i don't see the big deal. i've used a phone with a large touchscreen dialpad for the past 6 months and it's neat, but i'd hate to not have at least a "answer" & "hangup" button. i use those two buttons and the button i configured for voice command and that's pretty much it. i do slide out the keyboard for SMS and i gotta say that's way faster than touching the touchscreen with your fingernail or getting out a stylus. hopefully the thing will have some kind of voice recognition, because it really is difficult to try and use the touch screen when trying to multitask (driving, etc). the problem with a pure touch screen and no buttons is you actually have to look at the device.

The hangup and answer buttons are on the screen... I do agree that for the most part, the phone is for early adopters. I have wanted visual voicemail for a very, very long time so that's a plus for me. You need to watch the demo that Jobs gives to really understand the touchscreen and some of the other features. It has a full featured keyboard and since it can be oriented in landscape or portrait, personal preference takes over. I have to look at my phone now and it has tons of buttons. Driving and cell phones shouldn't happen anyway, that's stupidity on the driver's part. The price tag is hefty. The fact that you can do push e-mail, full web-browsing, google maps integration with faux gps, and instant conference calls are all very cool. I will need to play with it though before I buy one. I am not gonna knock the interface till I try it. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

The hangup and answer buttons are on the screen... so press those buttons without looking at the screen I have to look at my phone now and it has tons of buttons. so you're saying having all the buttons on a screen would prevent you from having to look at the phone??? You need to watch the demo that Jobs gives to really understand the touchscreen and some of the other features. It has a full featured keyboard and since it can be oriented in landscape or portrait, personal preference takes over. i do understand. my phone has an on screen keyboard that can be in landscape or portrait, i honestly would rather have a keyboard i can press with two thumbs than have to fingernail or stylus press each button. Driving and cell phones shouldn't happen anyway, that's stupidity on the driver's part. maybe for some people, but having to look at a screen won't help that any. i can voice dial and talk to people without ever even looking at my phone. I am not gonna knock the interface till I try it. i'm not necessarily knocking it, i just don't believe it's been well thought out. my phone, being very similiar, with a large, touch screen interface, would be much less useable without the couple of buttons on the front (and it has almost exactly the same display shown on the iphone, with the dialpad on the screen, answer/ignore buttons on screen and such). |

I do agree with a few of your points and after reading a few usability guy's thoughts, some more buttons would be better. I don't think a full keyboard should be on it but you are right about the hang-up and call buttons.
I know that there will be voice dial, i just don't know how good it will be. Buttons have their place. We've been conditioned to use cellphones, we can be reconditioned. No one used a mouse until Apple introduced it.... |

yeah i think a hangup/call button would be cool. a lot of consumer devices nowadays are operated by touch only once a person gets used to it (phones, remote controls, video game controllers, etc). it definitely has a nice big screen, does it show the dimensions/resolution of the screen anywhere?
and btw, no apple didn't introduce the mouse. |
