cool. yeah we just grabbed a couple from rustic while we were there. just thought'd we play around and practice the CHL test... which was pathetically easy by the way.

yeah it's pretty much a check in the box.

if the govt really cared about CHL safety (and not just the $$ they get), they would implement a course focusing on weapons draw from where you 'carry on your person' through impact on target under a variety of conditions (cold, dark, rainy, etc). that is when most people need their bangbang and yet since it isn't the controlled environment a range is, are more apt to screw up when in a high-intensity situation.

then practice things like immediate action (in case of weapons malfunction), reloads, weak-side drawing and shooting. get all that down and you'll be one well-rounded carry-shooter.

one question...do you intend on carrying that .357?

probably not often if ever. although carrying in the truck and such without the possibility of being hassled is nice. and if i wanted to carry for some reason i could. we're all mainly just doing the class for the hell of it and to learn all the ins and outs of the laws and such governing when it's ok to show the weapon, shoot someone, home defense, etc. it's not too terrible of a price ($160 i think?) for the first 4 years, then $80 renewal that lasts 5 years. also consider most places give you free gun rental, targets, ammunition, and a meal, as well as do all your paperwork and send it off.

you already got a pistol, right? get some variety and get a .22

well yeah but i mean, a .22 rifle or .22 pistol? was thinkin about grabbin the ruger 10/22, but they got proud of em and they're like $200 now. a fluted browning .22 pistol would be pretty tight too.

other consideration is my bud has a 10/22 that's decked out, so if i wanted to shoot rifles i'd prob grab that... not sure yet though

my key point with .22 is that they are cheap to shoot, and extremely accurate. a pistol would be kinda useless really. get a 22 rifle, so you can put that bullet right where you want it.


the only way i would get another .22 pistol is if i constantly used ratshot in it.

so when you get a deer rifle in your hand you'll be golden. as opposed to the guys who shoot less often due to $$ of rounds.

but my buddy has a ruger 22 pistol that is kickass and fun as hell. he put a red dot sight on it...it is tight. googled it...



still, I'd go with the long gun.

ive used a .22 single action revolver.

thats a damn fun gun.

if youve allready got the pistol, maybe go for the rifle. its not much pop, but you will be able to put the shot where you want it.

went to the Dallas gun show this weekend with one intent. spend zero money out of pocket and pick up a Rock Island G.I. M1911A1.

done and done.

did some fair trading for it, but the NIB sticker he had on it was $334.89. good price for a solid 1911. there is nothing special on it, but over the course of the next year this thing will evolve greatly.

first things first with 1911s is break-in. unlike a spock or XD, it takes around 500 rounds to get the "kinks" out. after that though, it should last longer than you're alive.

eventually, additions will be:
beavertail, hammer, match trigger, higher profile dot or fiber optic sights, grips. possibly more...we'll see again after that 500 rds.

yes it's .45acp. the mag that comes with it holds 8. so it carries 9 with stock mag (of course there are high-cap mags).

I don't really care...this isn't a primary offensive weapon. just a fun iron and wood shooter.
