I'm going to be buying the Sprint PPC-6700 on Friday. I'm pretty jazzed. I tried the whole PDA phone deal about four years ago with the SPH-i300 but wasn't really blown away by the capabilities enough to deal with the size and bulk.

Keep in mind that this was way before any of the providers had begun rolling out 3G, so web surfing was incredibly slow. Plus, no camera, no keyboard, no expandable memory, no wireless, no bluetooth, etc.

Anyone use one of these puppies?

yeah... i've showed him some of the football threads on here and he thought he knew you by your posts heheh.

anyhow... the PPC 6700 is a badass, fastest pda phone i know of.. (at 416MHz). a good friend of mine has the treo and likes it, but since the ppc runs windows mobile 5.0, imo it has way more potential (and comes with the full mobile ms office suite too kchristia wink.gif)

Wouldn't you need the 700w to do that?

I personally want to get a Treo 700p for the simple reason that I can tether it and use the EVDO and it supports IMAP e-mail.

I have heard good things about the PPC 6700 though.

i just bought a Treo 700wx yesterday... great shit. the PPC6700 was my choice until this came out... i think this is more useable.

I had an i300 as well, I loved it. I still have two of the phones without service, and they both work. Until recently, none of the other PDA phones have held a candle to it. My only complaint about the 700wx is the battery life, but both my parents just got them as well and they aren't having this problem, so I think I just got a bum battery. As I've only had it for 36 hours, I haven't decided whether I'm going to take that in or not... maybe it needs to be broken in.

edit: totally missed brandon's mechwarrior reference. sweet.

another edit: the 700w can use the EVDO as a modem for your pc as well, although bluetooth for modem is disabled, you can get third party software to enable it. Palm pretty much did it to sell more of the p's than the W/WX's.

the keyboard on the 6700 is kinda flaky, as is the slide-out thing. A friend of mind has already had one break on him. The tinyer keys do take a day or two to get used to, but it's not a problem. Also, it's SDIO capable, which is a big plus in my book.

and you don't have to slide it open to do almost anything functional.

oh wow i didn't realize the treo you're talking about is actually bigger than the ppc 6700. yeah that SD i/o slot would be cool for a GPS or somethin, but cell phone companies are about to start opening up GPS coordinates to the handsets pretty soon so that's kinda a moot point for me. personally i like the bigger screen and bigger keys on the ppc, along with the built in wi-fi. i haven't had any problems with the slide out at all... seems pretty solid to me and my coworker who've had em for about 6 months. i will gripe a little about the stylus holder, it gets a little loose after a few months, but no huge deal it still locks down.

Just to clarify, the 700w can be used as a EVDO modem for Windows machines. I have a Mac though and as far as I can tell it does not tether correctly.
