true. and in this instance it's fine...so it seems.
but then my thoughts strayed to other scenrarios...what if in a divorce hearing, the wife's attorney used her husband's google searches of "big tits" or "angelina jolie" something to defame his character that he was a reprobate and sway the judge in her favor? what if you were held accountable for everything you've ever googled? a quick check on my recent searches brings up somewhat disturbing stuff if taken out of context. I just googled "mexico purse" because I was looking for a cheesy pic to make fun of someone... what is the slippery slope on this? |

I just googled "mexico purse" because I was looking for a cheesy pic to make fun of someone... what is the slippery slope on this? I agree, but I think there are a lot of issues that need to be considered. For one, how was the search history acquired? Was it from his cache on his browser? If so, then I have no problem with it. If Google turned over the records then I have a big problem with it. If the ISP turned over the HTTP requests, then I have a slight problem with it. When I will start getting concerned is when the government is asking for things to be turned over that we expect to be private (encrypted transactions, skype conversations, etc.) -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Because of the relationship you're in I can see why you adopted that philosophy.

Because of the relationship you're in I can see why you adopted that philosophy. that isnt my philosophy... thats just the quote I use when people bitch about privacy expectations. If a company or the government wants to use "private" information to put criminals behind bars then I dont really care. If you dont do anything wrong, then you dont have anything to worry about. In my opinion, there are a lot more important things to worry about then ones own idea of what personal freedom should be. Im sorry but Americans shouldnt really bitch so much about the government when there are children in Africa dying of aids because they were raped. When will you people start to realize that life here in America is more than some people could ever dream of? |

QUOTE Court documents are ambiguous and don't reveal how the FBI discovered his search terms. how do you know the search information was provided by google? it also doesn't look like they were a key piece of evidence... just supportive mainly. they siezed his computer with a search warrant and I'm sure they found all they needed to know from that. |

When will you people start to realize that life here in America is more than some people could ever dream of? these little freedoms are what make things better for us in America. so yea, they take a bit here, take a bit there. eventually we are just as oppressed as the 3rd world countries. look at how much freedom as citizens we have lost compared to 30 years ago, 50, and further? if we don't bitch and maintain those freedoms, we WILL be the children with AIDS because they were raped. you have to work and fight for those freedoms, cunt. -------------------- |

In this case, the "violation" of privacy was ok imo, because the police obtained a search warrant. The second they obtained that warrant, the hacker lost his privacy. They had the authority to search his computer, house, even phone records.... why not google searches? They were made on his computer, which was his property...
-------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
