So graduation is a week from today and afterwards (we are in the morning ceremony) we are going to lunch at Stella's. I want to do something for my parents as a thank you for all of the things they have done/sacrificed to get me where I am today. I want it to be nice, but I don't want it to cost a lot because I don't want them to be upset I'm spending lots of money on them instead of saving for rent and such.
I wanted to do a photo collage of sorts that had pictures from all my college years and then leave one spot blank for a picture of me in my cap and gown. However, frames with enough slots for what I want to do are way too expensive. Anyone have any similar ideas? I want to do something that says thanks that's thoughtful but won't break the bank. Also, would it be inappropriate to give these gifts if we didn't have something to give to the others (aunts/uncles/grandparents/close friends)? They too are traveling out just to see me walk across a stage... I am pretty set on wanting to do something for my parents if nothing else. -------------------- Forget regret

the matboard is the expensive part, unless you're wanting a really nice frame. if you know anybody who could cut it for you, you could buy a sheet about the size of a poster board for less than $5. it's a bitch to cut correctly without a lot of practice, though.
also, you could use those old-timey black photo corners to just hold the pictures on the matboard. google photo corners if you don't know what i'm talking about. they sell them at hobby lobby or michael's. |

if you don't want the other realatives to feel bad, don't present the gift when everyone's around.
a friend of mine did a similar collage with a single large-ish frame, and a mat that had cutouts for the individual photos. places like hobby lobby will cut the mat for a bit cheaper than those frames. ikea = inexpensive frames. --------------------   |

I was gonna have somone take a picture of me and my parents at graduation and then print it out and frame it and give it to them at Christmas this year ...

Hey, I could get you a frame from Ikea if you see one on their website that you like and I'll mail it to you tomorrow. It would get there by like Thursday if I sent it priority. If you have paypal, I could buy the frame, ship it, then you could paypal me the the money. Thats an option for you if you want.

Get a piece of poster board, glue pics on that, cut it to size, and put it in a large frame.

ok i decided to do the picture montage as a christmas gift instead. i think it would be weird to give something to some and not others, so now i need to find something smaller and less involved... thanks for all your help so far guys (well, the ones who took it seriously)
