I've been to Sambuca (#3) and wasn't that impressed, although I went for lunch so there wasn't any live entertainment. |

Sambuca is cool at night (most of downtown is), Museum Row (Hermann Park), Rice Village area (bars, shops, etc.).
As far as good food... there is good food all along Westheimer from outside the Belt to downtown. There is an awesome Chinese food place called Mingh's at Westheimer and Montrose... mmmm -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

We have a Sambuca in Dallas in Addison, been many times. The one in Houston is a little nicer in my opinion and definitely has a different crowd than the one here. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

you can go to neartown (montrose westheimer) and look at the shops, book stores, cool eccletic stuff and thats just a few blocks away from the musuem district. id specifically recomend to check out the Menil collection, rothko chapel, and the byzantine fresco chapel museum. they are all right together on the same block.
The rice village area and rice university arent that much further from midtown. in the rice village shopping area theres an Italian market, cafe, restaurant called D'amico's. its really good. rice village area and downtown at night is really pretty also. stay around that area for the bar life. i forget the name of the really nice movie theater thats in that area -------------------- Little monkeys making money

if you want to go a little further you could always check out nasa in baytown (southeast side of houston)
the museums really are nice. i think the best one is the science museum. its also right next to the zoo and hermann park, which usually has stuff going on almost every night with tickets usually being free if you pick them up that morning. -------------------- Forget regret

I used to go watch movies in Hermann Park (they did it once a week) at the outdoor theater. I am not sure they do it during the winter but it was free and you could bring dinner and alcohol and just hang out and watch movies like "Goonies".
