I'm basing my knowledge of this issue on 22 years of experience living in Lubbock.
I've been told be former mayors, city managers, etc. how things work when it comes to the strip. The main churches in this town will rattle their chains at the pulpit if the issue is brought up, and will preach its "sinful nature that will spiral out of control." Personal responsibility must be a dead idea in the city. I guess adults aren't allowed to make adult decisions. -------------------- |

a heavy drinking atmosphere does typically result in sinful actions though. most churches will never just come out and say "drinking alcohol is a sin" because it's not. drinking alcohol in excess and getting drunk is a sin, as well as any other body altering things you ingest as well as eating in excess. it's in the bible i just forget where. in Christianity in general and from the bible, going out and having a couple beers with your buds is not wrong at all.

even so, the baptists don't come out and say drinking alcohol is a sin. they'll try to keep you away from it though. |

which is exactly why i didn't say baptist even so, the baptists don't come out and say drinking alcohol is a sin. You didn't mention any particular denomination, just "Christianity in general". And it depends on the Baptists in question... there certainly were ones in Waco that claimed drinking (and dancing) were sins. -------------------- |

that'd be the first i heard of it... i was raised baptist and have pretty much gone to nothing but baptist churches, and i've never heard drinking specifically called a sin (or dancing).
and i say christianity in general because yes, in general the principles in question are based on the bible, which never mentions either as a sin. hell even look at catholics, i've seen catholic church parties with several kegs. |

The comment about all law is morality legislation is more than likely based on the fact that regardless of the origins of a law, the implications are that going against it is wrong.
Our visions of right and wrong are heavily shaped on what is legal and illegal. ex: If I popped some xanax that wasn't prescribed to me, a lot of people would say what I'm doing is very bad and wrong, even if I just stayed home and didn't drive etc. If I drank a case of beer and didn't drive or anything, most people wouldn't call it bad or wrong. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Jesus turned water into wine
-------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
