In the Friday shopping frenzy I picked up this TV from walmart.

32" widescreen Symphonic LCD TV $599 (mine is black not gray)

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5058444
doesn't do 1080i but 720p is plenty of HD for me. i'm replacing my bedroom TV with it.

supposedly they were pretty tough to grab but I was in Lawton, OK for Thanksgiving and we went around 1pm and they still had plenty. Anyhow I got it all hooked up, looks great. I know it's not some uber brand, but I know there's only a few people making the actual LCDs anyways so I bet it's a samsung or sony LCD anyways.

just thought I'd post in case anyone was looking for something like this

Not too bad but for that price I'd rather buy a Vizio.

Circuit city had an Olevia 32" LCD for $475 on Friday and Saturday.

Most stores got at most 20 of those, and lines were forming at or before midnight at pretty much every CC here in dallas. Very few people got those.

personally, i'm waiting for 1080i/p to come down in price before i upgrade.

yeah under normal circumstances i'd never get anything less than 1080p on a new TV, but I've been wanting a panel for my bedroom and figured i could live with 720p in there wink.gif

i'm told the difference between i and p is pretty much just a couple hundered of dollars for barely any improvement

the difference between i and p is that p displays twice as many lines on the screen in a given cycle. progressive (p) makes sports, or fast moving video look much cleaner. which is why ESPNHD is in 720p, while stuff like discovery HD is in 1080i, displays a sharper picture because it doesn't have to change as rapidly. 1080p is the best of both worlds, but only on more recent TVs and i don't believe there's any channels broadcasting in it yet, only the blue ray & hddvd.

basically if you have 480i vs 480p:

480i = displays the odd 240 lines in 1/30th of a second, then the even 240 lines the next 30th of a second (i.e. where the word "interlaced" comes from)
480p = displays all 480 lines every 30th of a second

(at least this is if i recall correctly wink.gif )

yeah i know the difference, i've just heard that most people don't really think it's nessecary for the price, and that nobody supports it yet

how many people do you know with blue ray or HDdvd players?? yeah currently they're the only 1080p source (unless ps3 or xbox or something does it too i dunno), but they wont be the only ones for long. anybody who buys a new big screen for HD purposes is crazy if they spend the cash and don't get 1080p.

I was going to buy the Olevia 32" LCD HDTV at Circuit City on Friday but there was a line about 40 people deep when I got there at Midnight, so I said to hell with it.

People who show up at a store to buy a television hours before the store opens deserve to be shot
