I'm curious as to what's special or distinct about the work they did on this robot. Stereo vision systems and motion detection are nothing new, so what's so great about this?

The system automatically searches, detects, tracks, engages and confirms kills using its computer-controlled radar system. Because it is self-contained, Phalanx is ideal for support ships which lack integrated targeting systems and generally have limited sensors. The entire unit weighs 5625 kg or 6120 kg.
