The idea of a rematch for UT just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially since the loss to OSU was not close at all. See, I can understand where you're coming from but Ohio State rolled into Austin and defeated Texas in Colt McCoy's second collegiate start. That's enough, in my eyes, to give them a pass. |

Living in Austin, all I ever hear is that "things would be different if they played again" and I agree that McCoy would probably play a bit better. But enough to win ? I don't believe it at all. It seems that such a thought is always entertained purely on McCoy's improvements, and while ignoring Ohio St. completely. Last I saw, Smith was still making tons of shit happen, Pittman was handlin business on the ground, and Laurinaitis was enjoying being a fucking LINEBACKER with 5 Interceptions ! The only reason I'd want to see this rematch, is to watch the people of Austin be humbled, and just realize that their team isn't top dog this year. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Touche`, but you forget that last year when the whorns went to Columbus, Tressel was still looking for his starting quarterback. Troy Smith didnt come in until the second quarter/half if i remember correctly because Zwick was sucking so bad. This argument is a push at best. When you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback. -------------------- ![]() A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have. |

Troy Smith didnt come in until the second quarter/half if i remember correctly because Zwick was sucking so bad. This argument is a push at best. When you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback. 1. Jim Tressel wasn't "still looking" for his starting quarterback. He know exactly where he was: the doghouse. Troy Smith didn't start against Texas because he had been suspended for the Buckeye's previous two games for accepting money from boosters. He did not play in the 2004 Alamo Bowl or the 2005 season opener against Miami of Ohio. Justin Zwick was a junior when he faced off against Texas and had already attempted over 200 passes. Colt McCoy, on the other hand, was a redshirt freshman who had attempted a sum total of 19 passes against North Texas before suiting up against the Buckeyes. 2. Also, the 2005 Ohio State had nine players drafted in the 2006 NFL Draft. FIVE of those players went in the first round. By comparison, Texas had six players drafted and only two of those went in the first round. What I'm saying is that Texas was/is a strong team who was hobbled by a quarterback who (at the time) was inexperienced. The same cannot be said for Ohio State last year, Zwick was plenty experienced and had a shit-ton of experienced talent around him. |

Louisville does not deserve a shot at the National Championship over Texas, USC, a one-loss SEC team or even the loser of Michigan/Ohio State. that's horseshit for two reasons. 1. they'll be undefeated, while the other teams you mentioned have one loss 2. they play in a BCS CONFERENCE. this isn't like the 2004 Utes, which i had no problem not having a chance to play for the title (although i'd like to have seen them play the other undefeated team, Auburn). the Big East is one of the six BCS conferences. want to complain that they aren't as good now that VT and UM left? it doesn't matter. those teams bolted two years ago. i'm sure they had public plans to leave at least 1-2 years before that. that's at least three years the BCS knew about the eventual powerhouse breakup of the Big East, yet the did jack shit about it. they could have easily in 04 removed the Big East from the BCS Alliance when a four loss Pitt team played in the Fiesta, and replaced them with a third at large bid. it was obvious THEN that the conference wasn't on par with the other conferences, yet the BCS gods didn't do a damn thing about it. they got themselves in to this mess, and it'll be a fucking travesty of epic proportions the real reason why the BCS doesn't want Louisville in the title game is cause they aren't a "name" team and they won't generate as much revenue as a Florida or Texas will. it's pathetic that politics gets in the way of who truly deserves to play for the title game. i don't care if Loiusville's best player wouldn't be first string in the SEC (an actual argument used by someone on espn radio), i don't care if their conference sucks (which it doesn't, if you actually looked in to the Big East), i don't care about how tough the SEC is. Auburn got through it in 2004, where was all the tough talk then? by the way, the teams that both the SEC and the Big East has played, the Big East beat them by a greater margin of victory and if Rutgers beats Louisville and WVU, Rutgers has every claim to play for the title game -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

I read a fun article today discussing how everybody is bitching about the Louisville / West Virginia game, because of all the yards and points scored. Somethin like 78 total points, and ~1100 total yards between the teams. The author said if Louisville's helmets had longhorns on them, nobody would complain about the game, and if West Virginia was bearing crimson and gold - Cause if you recall the "greatest game of football ever played" from the National Champsionship, you saw ~1050 total yards, and 79 total points....and nobody complained about defenses then. no shit. the hypocrisy in college football media is utterly astounding they'll basically do whateve it takes to credit the old guard or discredit the new guard Hey, Texas won 42-38 what great offense! Hey, Louisville won 42-38 what poor defense! -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

Hey, Texas won 42-38 what great offense! Hey, Louisville won 42-38 what poor defense! Actually, your analogy is still flawed. Louisville more or less dominated West Virginia and scored two non-offensive touchdowns in the third quarter to put it away. The fact that they only won by 10 (44-34) is misleading as the game was nowhere near that close. I'm surprised you didn't watch it. And, sorry, I don't care that they're undefeated and in a BCS conference. The BCS gets shit wrong all the time (1998, 2001, 2003, 2004) and, from where I'm sitting, Louisville does not deserve a shot at the national championship game over the teams I listed. Not that it matters, really, because Ohio State will probably roll all over whoever they play. |

UT got praised after the rose bowl for one of the greatest games ever played. i agree - it was a great game - although i think the 05 rose was actually a better game. Louisville pretty much shuts down WVU and they get no love. it's kinda like the UT/TTU game. you can see it one of two ways. UT struggled to beat an unranked .500 team by only four, or UT came back from 21 down and shut em out in the second half. all depends on what kinda spin you want to put on it -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

Identical scores can lead to entirely different mindsets because oftentimes those totals are achieved in completely different ways. Where West Virginia scored a garbage touchdown against Louisville with 2:00 left to cut the deficit from a blowout-like 17 points to a semi-respectable 10, Texas reeled off 15 points in the last four minutes to knock off the two-time defending national champions and end their 34-game winning streak.
You tell me which was more impressive. Also, Texas Tech was 5-3 before the Texas game, and 5-4 afterwards. The Red Raiders have not been .500 since September of 2004. |

If you find the ESPN article I mentioned, there ia also talk of how Louisville was shopping around with SEC teams to arrange some matches, and only 2 would accept the game.
He even said that Tech recently had a deal with Louisville that they ended up breaking. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Call it what you want, but all i will ever say is that I saw a defense that everybody classified as good, fucking smother one of the top ranked offenses in the country.
