While talking to a guy at work, somehow the topic got onto OSX for x86, and he mentioned he has the 10.4.8 version (SSE3 only) with the security check for that apple hardware piece disabled. He just brought me the DVD a few mins ago, so I'll give it a shot some time in the next couple days and let you guys know how well it works. I don't mind reformatting several times in the past couple months considering I'm beta testing vista. Oh and he says it's supposed to work on AMDs too. If it works I'll figure out some way to get it to anyone else on here who wants it.
ps if you don't have the SSE3 my coworker says he has the 10.4.6 also. |

Bug fixes and security fixes and driver updates. That's about it.

a few lil things I'm curious about
1) does OSX have dual monitor support? although I'm having to use some dudes 3rd party ATI drivers 2) Is there a way to turn on the "sides" of the window? I.e. is the only way to resize a window the lower right corner? 3) is there some way I can make my home & end keys work the way i want them? It's driving me nuts that I can't use them to go to the end or beginning of a line. |

It'll size it to whatever size you need. 3) Takes some getting used to, but in most programs cmd + left and cmd + right will do the same thing. Cmd + up and Cmd + down will go to the top and bottom of a document. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! To edit the behavior of the "Home" and "End" keys (technically, they do what they're supposed to, "Page Up" and "Page Down" are what you are looking for), anyway, do the following:
Open Terminal and type: CODE cd ~/Library/ Do an ls to see if the "KeyBindings" folder exists. If it doesn't: CODE mkdir KeyBindings go into the KeyBindings directory and then type: CODE nano DefaultKeyBinding.dict Copy and paste the following in: CODE { /* Remap Home / End to be correct */ "\UF729" = "moveToBeginningOfLine:"; "\UF72B" = "moveToEndOfLine:"; "$\UF729" = "moveToBeginningOfLineAndModifySelection:"; "$\UF72B" = "moveToEndOfLineAndModifySelection:"; } If you want corrected functionality for the page up and page down keys copy this in instead: CODE { /* home */ "\UF729" = "moveToBeginningOfLine:"; "$\UF729" = "moveToBeginningOfLineAndModifySelection:"; /* end */ "\UF72B" = "moveToEndOfLine:"; "$\UF72B" = "moveToEndOfLineAndModifySelection:"; /* page up/down */ "\UF72C" = "pageUp:"; "\UF72D" = "pageDown:"; } Do a Ctrl-x and make sure you save the file. You will have to close and reopen the applications that you want to see this on but you won't have to reboot. Also, this doesn't work (for some reason) in Firefox. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

ahh ok
already went back to windows xp... it was gonna drive me nuts if i couldn't get my sound to work. (not apple's fault or anything, all the drivers were 3rd party hack jobs). a couple of things I liked in the short time I tried it: reads NTFS drives (i have two drives in the machine, one fast 150GB Raptor for boot, and a 300GB for storage & backup) built-in ability to burn a CD ISO (heh I found it kind of ironic though, bc I used it to burn a winxp sp2 CD so I could go back to windows I may try it again some time if I see that they have my sound card drivers, but I'm back on XP. tired of messin with non-production OSs for now. |

yeah the home and end key thing was what always bugged the shit out of me, my biggest complaint about apple, but it's always been fixable.
