Interesting.. I was thinking about going to Cingular, but now that I'm out in a place that only gets digital roaming signals, it looks like it may not be a good idea. I guess they lose money if you're on roaming all the time.

Gen said that yes, it's in the contract and has been in provider's contracts for pretty much forever. However, she's unsure of why they're just now enforcing it. Since it is technically a violation of your contract, they can charge you the early termination fee.

BUT... you can probably talk/cry/yell your way out of it. She said "yah, they're concerned more with reputation rather than anything right now and we'd rather have a happy customer than someone badmouthing" So have at it! Ask for supervisors! Bug people! (Just be prepared to spend a while on the phone...)
