QUOTE
A man was escorted from a gym by police – for grunting while working out.

Albert Argibay was thrown out of the Planet Fitness gym in Wappingers Falls, New York state after the gym's manager called the cops as she tried to make him leave.

Planet Fitness say that they have very strict rules on grunting, as well as on wearing bandanas and dropping weights. It's all part of creating what they call a 'Judgment Free Zone' to make the gym more attractive to novice exercisers. They even have a 'lunk alarm which goes off when somebody does something wrong.

The gym claims that Argibay got aggressive when asked to leave for grunting, which is when they called the police. Argibay denies that he did so, and wants an apology from the gym. 'It's an attack on my character, and it's very embarrasing, and an insult,' he said.

The gym's manager, Carol Palazzolo, defended her actions: 'He was looking directly at me and he did it four times. I'm not a doctor, but as far as I know, a grunt is a noise that comes out of one's body that is loud and is intimidating.' Why being a doctor would have any bearing on the matter isn't clear.

'Perhaps I grunted, perhaps I didn't. It's open to interpretation,' was Argibay's take on the matter. He added: 'It's an embarrassing situation to be in, over a grunt.'

Wappingers Falls police confirmed that their officers responded to call to 'escort a member out of the club for grunting while working out.'

just two questions on this one. what lift was he doing, and was he looking towards or at that person.

because if you are doing something where the machine faces you a way and are just looking forward thats stupid to say the lifter is looking 'at' you.

so its not of to grunt. does it mean that its not ok to hiss, yell or 'HUURRK' while lifting?

Retarded, it is not like he was grunting to intimidate anyone, obviously he was struggling with the weights or just grunts when he works out. Who cares.

ive been poking around planet fittness' web site and all i can find on the matter is

QUOTE
Planet Fitness strives to promote health in a respectful atmosphere. For over a decade, Planet Fitness has gone to great lengths to provide its members with a friendly space to work out. We call it the Judgment Free Zone. We discourage weight dropping and obnoxious grunting so you can focus on your own workout and not the person next to you.

all it says is obnoxious grunting. so does that mean if i find any grunting obnoxious and someone grunts i can have them removed?

Note: none of the other gym members complained only the manager. If it was such a bother to the customers in maintaining this judgement free zone, then why did no one claim to be judged by it?

the only time I ever "grunt" is when I am doing leg presses and have a fuckload of weight on it and the weight is pushing my knees into my stomach and i feel like I'm about ready to explode....

normally even with heavy lifts I just breathe really heavy....I sound like I'm giving birth more than anything with lamaz or some shit....

I could give a flying fuck about grunting if you're letting out a genuine grunt, but what pisses me off, and what I think is probably the reason for this rule, are the morons who effectivley "fake grunt" because they think it makes them sound tough or something ...

And I also completley understand the rule about dropping weights. It's fucking retarded. The only weight you should ever drop should be if you have 400+ pounds on the barbell and you're trying to deadlift something. ... It's ocmpletley fucking stupid to see people dropping dumbells around the way they do.

I don't know ...

I guess if the guy wants to grunt, go join a real gym instead of a "novice" gym or whatever.

good. I hate over-grunters.

there's only so much that's natural, before it's contrived/overdone. I'm sure if it was annoying enough to warrant calling the pigs, it was some over-the-top GRAAAHHHHHUUUHHHH!!!
