I like shotguns for home defense for one simple reason, it's easy to not screw up.
You grab it, point it in the general direction and fire. If that doesn't stop 'em you pump it or if you have a double barrel you just pull the trigger again. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

true S&W are proud of their guns. I know ruger revolvers are top-notch a generally a hundred bucks or more cheaper. _______________ something you might want to think about getting is a carry/conceal gun and license (hey it's texas! use the right afforded you that many other states long for). for that, a poly gun is ideal. will (I think) pointed out a glock. glocks are great offensive weapons and have proven themselves time and again. I don't get where someone pointed out you have to clean them incessantly? to me cleaning part of the deal, but I never noticed them to jam up like the m16/m4 will if breathed on wrong. but as an aside from the glock, you have the sigs (nice, pricey), H&K (nicer, more pricey) but personally I carry the springfield XD .45ACP. it's modeled off the glock with a couple differences (grip safety in addition to the trigger one, chmber indicator). cheaper (around $450), field strips into only 4 parts, and has a 14rd capacity. the XD family from springfield is relatively new on the scene, but has already begun taking ver. you can find countless articles about it online, but I challenge someone to find a negative one. yeah I noticed in that article the Ruger SP101 .357 mag was recommended, and one of my buddies here said he'd love to have one too. and hell yeah i'd get a carry license |

Honestly it has nothing to do with performance... i just like the way the beretta looks and feels. Just like i will never buy a glock just because i hate how it looks. LOL, yeah...there is absolutely NOTHING pretty about any poly/striker gun. here is a pic of the ugly ducking I carry... ![]() I'm sure the beretta 92 (civilian model of the M9) is much higher quality than the mil-spec I used. it just felt janky and rickity in my mits. but then so did most other weapon they gave me. I just am not a 9mm fan in general. |

I apologize if I am too mouthy on this thread. it's just one of the few things I am well-versed in. when y'all start talking about WoW or coding or certain tv shows or bands I am over in the corner playing with my poo.
and there is no definate best or worst anything (except kimber 1911's). all is subjective and having a dialogue about these things may shed light on something someone never though of. I was dead set on something before, but after talking to a few guys, totally changed my mind about it, just through dialogue. |

Whenever I see a .357 Magnum I immediately think of Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty.

that's the exact weapon that resides under my bed. my "all-tactical, all the time" high-speed low-drag brethren roll their eyes at me about it, but goddamn I love that gun. |
