I got a remington 870 pump shotgun. Its reliable, useable (can take either hunting or skeet shooting), and good for home defense.

I want a handgun, but shotgun was more "useable" to me, so i decided on shotgun.

I carried the rem 870 in LA and somalia. you can't beat it for price and reliability. score 1 for trespass's recommendation.

What is fun about target practice? It's boring and it's ultimatley a waste of time unless you're going to kill something.

I like dogmeat (I guess...I mean he's entertaining in a goofy neighbor who'd stick a firecracker up a horny toads but kinda way). but I couldn't disagree more with him on this subject. I'm not going to get into the merits of firearms, uses, and responsible ownership and employment...rather just deal with impala's original inquiry.

a couple handguns I've had recommended for a fun shooting + plenty of home defense power:

(and hartmann, yeah a simple .22 rifle was highly recommended as well)

the revolver might be ok but I would steer clear of the kp95...not just because it's 9mm. I fam-fired one a few years ago and never had felt such a chunky clunk gun prior. I didn't like the action one bit. once I read through, I'll make some recommendations.

i have a browning 12 guage pump and a savage 30 ought 6 scoped just a lil deer rifle. i almost got a 12 shell mossberg home security that shit was right out of SWAT lol. i just started bird hunting and i reall ylike it easy to clean. my dad is camping out at the lease tonight cuz deer season starts tomorrow lol
my dad just sold his ar-15 with a 300 eotech scope it was noice but thats what we bought my browning with and he kept the rest.

that's the dumbest theory ever. even something small like a .25 will stop someone cold in their tracks. it might not kill them, but it will sure as hell make them rethink their path towards you or your valuables

Well the idea is to take them down as quickly as possible, so that if they're armed they have no time/way to shoot back. There's also a good chance that someone coming into your house armed will also be toasted on some kinda drug. Some dude on PCP could prob take several shots to non vital areas and shoot back enough to kill you.

oh and for a small plink around rifle, i checked out the remington 597 .22 they had, seemed pretty nice... anyone know about it? guy at the counter said it's a pretty damn nice gun for the price ($128)

my nontactical baby is a .357 S&W 686-plus (plus denotes 7rds, vice 6)



as far as home defense goes, I would go with a magnum wheel gun or a pump shotty. with the .357s, most are chambered to fire the .38 as well, so that saves your pocket book when you're range firing.

in the middle of the night, sleepy, fear-induced situation, the last think you need to dick with is chambering a round and a safety, or the nightmare that can sometimes be a semiauto shotty. with a revolver or a pump it's just quicker and less room for fumbling error. KISS (keep it simple, stupid) applies to home defense.

basely speaking, revolvers are defense guns, whereas semiautos are offensive.

right and the "scare" factor of seein that shiny SW revolver coming around the corner combined with the magnum boom when it fires probably means more than having a few extra rounds to fire in a semi auto

now just to decide if I don't mind spending $570

small rifle? as in like a varmit gun/target gun? .22?

if so I would go with the ruger 10/22. you can pick one up for a little over $200. but the rad thing is you can trick it out to no end, until it is a precision competition shooter. they are rad little rifles that you might develop an unhealthy passion for (like so many people I know).

true S&W are proud of their guns. I know ruger revolvers are top-notch a generally a hundred bucks or more cheaper.

something you might want to think about getting is a carry/conceal gun and license (hey it's texas! use the right afforded you that many other states long for). for that, a poly gun is ideal.

will (I think) pointed out a glock. glocks are great offensive weapons and have proven themselves time and again. I don't get where someone pointed out you have to clean them incessantly? to me cleaning part of the deal, but I never noticed them to jam up like the m16/m4 will if breathed on wrong.

but as an aside from the glock, you have the sigs (nice, pricey), H&K (nicer, more pricey) but personally I carry the springfield XD .45ACP. it's modeled off the glock with a couple differences (grip safety in addition to the trigger one, chmber indicator). cheaper (around $450), field strips into only 4 parts, and has a 14rd capacity.

the XD family from springfield is relatively new on the scene, but has already begun taking ver. you can find countless articles about it online, but I challenge someone to find a negative one.
