QUOTE (zetec @ Mar 2 2006, 09:07 PM) it does use it's own protocol. http://www.bittorrent.com/protocol.html most torrent sites now have the same stuff. mininova is really the only one you ever need anyways. scene releases hit mininova literally minutes after they hit the topsites, and unless you have the kinda connections that are gonna get you leech access on a topsite, or you feel like waiting in queue for days in IRC, it's gonna be the quickest way to get new releases mininova's tv section typically has all the hot shows no more than 30 minutes after they air (thank you eztv) speeds with bit torrent far surpass any other p2p client/network, especially with proper NAT transversal stop using the official bit torrent client and use azereus. the official client sucks fucking balls, azereus is open-source and allows for plugins, and is configureable as fuck. bit torrent doesn't just send you file chunks, it prioritizes the chunks sent and recieved by the availability, making the entire process a bazillion times more efficent than something like gnutella (which does the same thing, but without the prioritization process. you get part a, then part b, etc.) the trackers only list what content is available, just like a search function in gnutella lists only what content is available. none of the file comes from the tracker (unless it's a web seed, which is rare). face it, bit torrent is the most practical and most widely accepted p2p protocol EVER, and there's a damn good reason for it. embrace the change, unless you have root on a topsite. if that's the case, you wouldn't be asking for knight school. This man hit the nail on the head... (in a non-homosexual way) -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

furthermore, mininova is operated in the netherlands, where it's legal, it's been up for years, and even sent sony's lawyers a letter after a C&D order saying, "in case you haven't noticed, we're not in america. It is the opinions of the mininova staff and our lawyers that you should go fuck yourselves"
-------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

QUOTE (jonathan83 @ Mar 2 2006, 10:33 PM) are you sure you aren't thinking about thepiratebay? http://thepiratebay.org/legal.php i couldn't find the blog post on mininova, so it could well be thepiratebay, but mininova is hosted in the netherlands as well. and the mininova labs keeps on turning out cool shit, specifically the iframe java computational cluster thingie they were working on. imagine, (if they actually implemented it that way:) everyone that visits mininova unbeknownst to them would end up participating in a DDOS attack against someone. thats like uber awesome however the code is meant to do stuff like SETI. and furthermore they aren't using it, so put the tinfoil hats up. -------------------- WAIT. azureus is the best if your on linux or mac
but if your on windows µTorrent is the best one has almost all the same features as azureus but is only few hundred K and the memory footprint is more like 5-10mb while azureus has a 70mb+ memory footprint http://utorrent.com/ edit: fixed the url This post has been edited by zetec: Mar 5 2006, 06:44 PM -------------------- ~Clatto Verata Nicto

i've been meaning to check out utorrent for a while, but i feel warm and snug nestled in the busom of opensource, as well as all my plugins.
and memory footprint isn't a problem on this machine -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
