I've never owned a gun, but a couple buddies at work are big hunters/gun owners and it's gotten me interested. I'd like to eventually have one of each of four types: handgun, shotgun, small rifle, big rifle. After talking to my buddies a lot and seeing a few good sounding online sources (here's one I thought was good), I'm trying to decide on actual guns now, and which one or two I should start off with. Home defense and target shooting is probably more of a consideration over actual hunting, so I just wanted to see if anyone had some good recommendations.

If they answer yet to both questions, then they can call themself a hunter. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I got a remington 870 pump shotgun. Its reliable, useable (can take either hunting or skeet shooting), and good for home defense.
I want a handgun, but shotgun was more "useable" to me, so i decided on shotgun. For rifles, you can always get a .22 for inexpensive ammo, Unless you plan on hunting or using it a lot i wouldn't say get a big deer/semi-automatic rifle though. (cost justification-wise) |

Owning a gun for the sake of having a gun is exactly what im all about. I dont ever plan on using a gun except for occasional target practice. I just happen to like guns. People collect all sorts of shit, i don't see why owning them for the simple fact of liking guns makes you more retarded than someone collecting other things that don't actually have a use.
Like dogmeats porn collection for example. |

It's boring and it's ultimatley a waste of time unless you're going to kill something. Wow. A bottle I shot exploded. I think I'll go watch a moth get caught in a bug zapper next! Target shooting? I would get a .22 rifle or something like that.
Pistol wise? I have always been a fan of the 9mm and the .45 -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

What is fun about target practice? It's boring and it's ultimatley a waste of time unless you're going to kill something. what is fun about anything you don't enjoy? nothing, to you, which is coincidentally why you don't partake in it. funny concept for pistols, i'd go with a Glock 9x19. i prefer the 17L model. the 19 is also a nice alternative. it's smaller and easier to conceal. don't pay attention to anything the rap community says about Glocks. they are top of the line, easy to use pistols -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

yeah i'm checkin out the glocks and the rugers as far as pistols go. my buddy has a 9mm ruger and likes it a lot.
saw this .22 on academy's site, seems like it'd be good and definitely cheap http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=cont...0351-02662-2597 |

it's better to have a gun and never need it, than not have a gun and really need it.
if you get a shotgun of any type, i highly recommend Mossberg. they have the best designs for durability, reliability, and they are extremely cost effective. as far as handguns go, everyone has a their own taste. i am a big fan of Sig's, but not everyone will like how they feel. from my experience when i went searching for the gun i would carry for work, i found that:: sig is safer than most fire arms, accurate etc. but usually more costly ruger is made of thicker steel, parts are less likely to warp under heat, but they are prone to jamming because of the extra parts they usually have glock is reasonably cheap, and as long as you keep them exceptionally clean they are reliable (personal experience with most models is that they have issues with jamming and misfire if they even have a slight amount of dust in them) there are exceptions of glocks i do like though smith and wesson is ok, but they are kinda over priced, still cheaper than sig though,, and not really exceptional in any areas. they do have a wide variety of designs and are usually very attainable at most gun stores. only guns i recommend you avoid at all costs are anything that have been "rebuilt" and desert eagles. most useless over rated firearm i have ever shot. -------------------- |
