although i think some of the calls sucked, put simply, we got beat.

i watched the first half of the game last night when it reaired at midnight because i wanted to see what angles tv people had and what those commentators would say. its really interesting the comments they made about the booth review judges and how theyre almost harming more than theyre helping. like that one play where they reviewed if hicks had possession or it was incomplete, when they stopped and said the play was under review, the commentators (much like most of the stadium) were like what is there to review?

i just cant help but feel that the refs gave ut the game. there were some key calls that were made that just stripped away our momentum and handed it to ut on a silver platter, when the calls were blatantly wrong (or blantantly not even called in the first place ie penalties). and yeah i know people are gonna say we shouldnt have let it get that close to where it came down to one bad call that ended the game, but it wasnt one bad call, it was several very important bad calls.

i respect ut and i know that they are a good team and i would be able to accept the loss if i feel it was earned. im not whining because omg tech should have won because theyre my team and no one else is as good, but i really feel like we were cheated.

too many replays

i think for the most part, the calls were right...except one (the catch, fumble, recover)

i think replay is a good thing to have...but that's way too god damn many. instead of letting the game be played, it's the whole 'are we sure'. I think the coaches should have their replay as it is, but the booth needs to calm down on that shit.

UT won because they are the better team. TTU had their chances to capitalize and they did in the first half. but you can't blame it on GH not getting the first, or any other specific play.

as much i am a UT homer, there were some pretty questionable calls against tech.

tech shouldn't have anything to be ashamed of. they came out pumped and outplayed UT the first half.

UT's D and Leach's coaching was too much to overcome in the second half

- Learn to stop a QB who decides to run. Here's a hint, what QBs has Tech played this year that scrambled for first downs at important times ? TCU, Missouri, Texas.....and tell me how those games ended.


Good show though. I'm with Will on being excited about the McCoy vs Harrell match up. I don't know what kind of talent UT has coming into their secondary next year, but they gotta get something goin on. It's wayyyyy too early to seriously talk about next years game in Austin, but imagine how big of an upset that could be.


Hows the receiver farm for Tech ? I hope that after Harrell finds his groove this year and prepares for next year, he has plenty of people to still throw to to make plays.

Texas Tech only has two healthy running backs on the roster right now: Shannon Woods and Kobey Lewis. Second-string Baron Batch came down with an injury a couple of weeks ago and is likely out for the season while junior Taurance Rawls was lost for the year before spring practice even started. Pete Richardson entered fall camp at running back, but soon moved to cornerback in an attempt to gain more playing time. Of all of them, Rawls and Batch are arguably the more "powerful" backs, though neither would ever be mistaken for Jorvorskie Lane or Henry Melton.

While the Red Raiders have a fullback-type on the roster in David Schaefer, his primary role is pass protection. There are certain plays where he flares out as a receiver, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen him get a carry during practice. Additionally, Schaef has recently returned from an injury.

The idea of stopping a running quarterback is much easier said than done, *especially* when you're trying to defend a team as talented as Texas. Any one of their two-deep skill players is a legitimate home run threat whenever the touch the ball. Limas Sweed, Quan Cosby, Billy Pittman, Jordan Shipley, Jermichael Finley, Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young are as explosive as anyone else you will find in the entire country. So, to set aside a linebacker to spy on Colt McCoy would arguably make the Red Raiders more vulnerable than less. What you can do, is try keep McCoy contained inside the pocket but that is pretty impossible to do all game long against the Longhorn's All-Universe offensive line.

Plus, there aren't a lot of times where McCoy runs on designed keepers. Not nearly like Jeff Ballard of TCU or Missouri's Chase Daniel. Against Oklahoma last week, Daniel had nearly every single one of the Tigers' rushing attempts in the second half. That isn't McCoy's game, but he will definitely hurt you when the pocket breaks down and there isn't anyone open downfield.

Though next year's receiving corps will likely not be as talented as the one Tech is fielding this year, there isn't much reason to believe that there will be a significant drop in production because of it. The Red Raiders lose three wideouts - Jarrett Hicks, Joel Filani, Robert Johnson - all of them starters. Danny Amendola returns next season and, barring injury, will undoubtedly start at H-receiver. He's really the only guy, I think, that has a secure spot for next year. Of the guys on campus right now, you'll have guys like Todd Walker, Ed Britton, Michael Crabtree battling it out for the nod at X and Z. Grant Walker, Eric Morris, Adrian Reese and L.A. Reed will all be in contention for the vacant Y, though Morris will likely stay at H and Reed could possibly see time at X or Z.

(FYI, Hicks = X, Filani = Z, Johnson = Y, Amendola = H)

Lyle Leong, who grey-shirted this season, could also push for time. He's plenty tall enough, and can leap like a gazelle, but needs to add some bulk. Depending on who they end up signing, a couple of true freshmen could also play for Tech in 2007. A guy like Gerald Jones, who visited this weekend, would probably see the field as a true freshman in some sort of slash capacity.

If I had to guess right now, the four wideouts that start September 1, 2007 against SMU would be Crabtree at X, Ed Britton at Z, Amendola at H and Reed/Walker at Y. Okay, I copped out at Y but Reed could honestly start at either inside position - he's been moved around a ton since he's been on campus.

Honestly, in my opinion, the biggest thing that will help/has helped the development of Graham Harrell will be/has been the lights-out performance of Shannon Woods this season. He has exceeded all of my expectations by a very large margin.

It was a great game. Definitely some calls that could have swung the ending in Tech's favor had they been called correctly, but I think Tech played an amazing game.

I think Texas is going to ream A&M and I hope they do because we were watching the game at a restaurant and there were some UT people there and it was a lot of fun going back and forth with them. But these A&M people sitting at the bar just kept giving us dirty looks and then proceeded to flick us off as they left... classless clowns.

Yeah, the UT fans IMO talk a lot of trash but in general are usually pretty good people. The guy at the restaurant bought everyone a shot and just laughed it up with us. A&M fans wouldn't have done that. They would have screamed their team was awesome and blah, blah, blah. The UT fans knew that both teams sucked during the game and left it at that.

I respect that.
