QUOTE (jonathan83 @ Oct 25 2006, 05:16 AM) *
first of all, notice the little smiley i put after my comment.
second... uh, so you think because we buy cheap labor from china and have a walmart there we're best buds? our governments are not allies dude. it's almost like a mini-cold war between our two governments and it's not even like it's that big of a secret. china/russia/n. korea are pretty good allies (all communist/former communist) whom hold talks regularly...probably about things they don't want us to know. if you don't know this i don't know what else to say.

don't be silly...find where I said we were "best buds" or that we were allies.

but we do have relations...albeit economic ones. if you don't know this I don't know what to else say. and how the hell has brother lived there for 4 years if we're sworn mortal enemies? how have I backpacked across it with a sword on my back? try that in NK.

they are communist. they are not our strategic allies. but we do have relations. define that how you will.

Putin tells everyone to lay off N Korea... Russia will be a strong proponent of NK. No matter what people think, Russia still has a strong Communist leaning, evening if on the outside they are a democratic state.

I agree, Russia needs someone to buy their nukes smile.gif

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

I fail to see what a metal detector at an airport has to do with anything, but I digress...

He was using that as an example of (slightly) higher security in China.

yeah I get that. and I think that is a weak analogy.

it's a metal detector in an airport. anyone who doesn't use that isn't more open, they're just stupid and/or cheap.

I was using an example of how one can freely travel around china unchaparoned or supervised, live there, take pics of whatever, hang out at the monestaries...whereas you cannot do that in NK.

but don't get me wrong...I don't think china is some rad disneyland funtime hangout. just not as oppressive and closed-off as NK.

which isn't saying much...

I don't think he was making a serious comment on the subject. Or at least that's what I drew from the haha at the beginning.

i mentioned it because you mentioned backpacking with a sword on your back in china. what does that have to do with US-China relations?
