Ok, but saying that North Korea would not be tough LIKE vietnam is just foolishness. Asian people are crazy.

No I just needed to re-read your post before I understood it. I'm guessing this is our favorite soldier. I just think that a US invasion of NK would be highly unwise. If they decide to fight like the Vietcong then we'll be in the same situation we were then. NK is not a highly urbanized city (look over some of those old posts that have pictures), it's very similiar terrain to what's around Hanoi. a ground war in korea would suck worse than anyone could imagine. besides a big ass NK army to fight, you have a million-man chinese army across the border who more than likely would reluctantly side with their asian brothers. they have before, and history tends to repeat itself.
but besides a disproportionate enemy troop to US ratio, you also have to contend with the elements. does no one remember we tried to play this game once before? what war in NK looks like:    fuck all that! |

Part of the weather/clothing problem was the fact that there was piss poor leadership and planning going on. They did not foresee us fighting into the winter and a lot of men died because they had no planned for it.

i dunno, i don't think china would side with them. they wouldn't risk open war with us. i would guess in the end china would value their relations with us more than NK.
no doubt that al-qaeda would take advantage and probably hit our troops some, but other than that, I don't think NK would have many (if any) allies. in that case I think they'd get crushed. wide open countryside = shooting gallery for us. i dunno who described NK as jungle like and comparing it to vietnam, but that doesn't look like the case to me. |

Yeah north korea has very few if any potential allies, but they do have more then Iraq did. These include Russia, China, and vietnam. Russia probably will not aid north korea because of their capabliites, relations with the US and the cold war is over. China may decide to help north korea if they stand by their ideological politics but considering their economy is not capitalist and they have friendly relations with the US it seems unlikely now that North Korea has dropped the bomb and wants to do another test. Vietnam would be glad to help north korea but they do not have the capabilities to help them. I don't think Al-Qaeda would be much of a threat in korea because their concentration is in the middle east, however I am sure they would like to get their hands on some nukes so who knows. -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. if china really wanted to throwdown with the US, they would first have to separate their economy from ours. and a booming, lucrative economy it is.
ideologically and historically they are cousins with korea. but this is a new china. i'm changing my stance on them...I don't think they are stupid enough to side with korea 100% on this. |
