I definitely dont agree with sexing of the minors and I do think all the men on that show have shown to some degree that they are dangerous. But I don't believe going arresting them this way is right. At least I feel just as perverted seeing this on television. If i was a pedophile Id get half my jollies off by just watching this

I'm all for catching sexual predators, but Dateline is quite frankly absolutley the most shoddy, biased, crap excuse for broadcast journalism in the world.

It is so heavily biased it's not even funny, it doesn't matter what they are reporting on be it environmental concerns to exploding gas tanks to child molesters. It's desined to make the audience hoo and haw instead of offering any kind of substantial evidence to support a conclusion.

Again I'm not defending child molesters but Dateline is such a worthless peice of journalism I would have a hard time believing ANYTHING I saw on there even in regards to child molesters being sickos....that's seriously how useless dateline really is.

To me, this situation would be analagous to a cop pulling up beside me at a stop light, revving his engine, lookin over like he wants to race, then i race him and he pulls me over and gives me a ticket for wreckless driving.

QUOTE
ENTRAPMENT

entrapment, n. 1. A law-enforcement officer's or government agent's inducement of a person to commit a crime, by means of fraud or undue persuasion, in an attempt to later bring a criminal prosecution against that person. [Cases: Criminal Law 37. C.J.S. Criminal Law § 58.] 2. The affirmative defense of having been so induced. • To establish entrapment (in most states), the defendant must show that he or she would not have committed the crime but for the fraud or undue persuasion. -- entrap, vb.
"Entrapment, so-called, is a relatively simple and very desirable concept which was unfortunately misnamed, with some resulting confusion. It is socially desirable for criminals to be apprehended and brought to justice. And there is nothing whatever wrong or out of place in setting traps for those bent on crime, provided the traps are not so arranged as likely to result in offenses by persons other than those who are ready to commit them. What the State cannot tolerate is having crime instigated by its officers who are charged with the duty of enforcing the law .... Obviously 'entrapment' is not the appropriate word to express the idea of official investigation of crime, but it is so firmly entrenched that it seems wiser to accept it with due explanation than attempt to supplant it ...." Rollin M. Perkins & Ronald N. Boyce, Criminal Law 1161 (3d ed. 1982).

If someone lets it known they are gonna shoot someone (through emails etc.), shows up to the persons house with a gun, and merely is stopped before commiting the act... they have still violated a law.

You can't tell me a "poor innocent bystander" is going to go to the chat rooms, learn of the underage-ness, and then get "entrapped" to go have sex with them, the very idea is ludacris.

It's not entrapment, it's just a type of sting operation. I don't have a problem with cops doing this, though I do think it makes for pretty crappy journalism.

I don't think I feel sorry for these guys.

DO NOT HAVE SEX WITH CHILDREN. One guy was going to cheat on his wife to fool around with what he thought was a 13 year old girl. Yeah, so fuck these guys.

That's just the thing, these guys did not have sex with children, at least as far as we know. So to me it seems fucked up to arrest them. In many ways, this is thought crime.

Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

Refer to this post for a counterargument:

ok going to a person's house with a gun and going to a 13 year old girl's house who begged you to come over are two completely different things.

You counter arguement is moot because he did not come to the house with his penis hanging out of his pants...

So... let me get this straight:

As long as a 13 year old PLEADS AND BEGGS for an adult to come over (which is to assume that the wanting to have sex is one sided... forgetting the evidence of them wanting to "teach" the presumed 13 year olds) and FORGETTING THE FACT THAT AN UNDERAGE PERSON CANNOT CONSENT TO SEX (which some of the older men tell the "girl" over the chat), and forgetting the fact that the men drive for MILES to come WHEN THE PARENT ISN'T AROUND, and then LATER CONFESS TO THE INTENTIONS TO HAVE SEX...

despite all that, its wrong to arrest the guys because it was a deputized person on the other end letting these guys act out thier intention to come over and RAPE these children... blink.gif

Oh, and lets just say the gun is in the jacket pocket... still a crime smile.gif

Fortunately for society, the court disagrees. They had intent to have sex with minors; there is sufficient evidence to prove so. They go to jail. End of story.

Soliciting a minor for sex is just as much a crime as actually having sex with them. They can fantasize about it all they want, but once they have solicited the child they have crossed the line.

well it just pisses me off... these guys they arrested never had any contact with a 13 year old, and yet that's what they're being arrested for. besides, even if it was real, it sounded like those officers really laid it on thick in their little "chats". these guys probably thought it was too good to be true and hence the only reason they went. i mean that one with the older doctor guy, he kept saying the "girl" was absolutely begging him to come over.

its the idea that once they see/read "hey im 13" they should IMMEDIATELY cease any and all conversations with this person. if you listen to chris when he does the interviews he says "you knew she was 13" and then when they say yes (those that do) he says "and yet you still continued to talk to her"

QUOTE (impala454 @ Oct 16 2006, 06:54 AM) *
again i'm not saying i condone older men meeting up and having sex with 13 year olds, but maybe if these slut bitches were raised right, they wouldn't be begging older men for sex online.

and its a good thing that these werent actual little girls or, as evidenced by the number of men that showed up, thered be a whole lot more statutory rape in the world.

while its very hypocritical, you would technically be breaking the law, regardless of what any one else around you is doing (just like if you were speeding along with another car on a highway and got pulled over, you wouldnt be let off just because you werent doing it by yourself)

i for one am very glad that there are people out there that solicit through chat rooms to find these pervs. like they say on the show, better to catch them in a false situation on the intent than to catch them when its too late for some 13 year old girl. i only hope that the funding for these types of stings remains strong so that other people like this can be brought into public domain.

there are a lot of situations to which entrapment applies

"ENTRAPMENT - A person is 'entrapped' when he is induced or persuaded by law enforcement officers or their agents to commit a crime that he had no previous intent to commit; and the law as a matter of policy forbids conviction in such a case."

In this case, the person (adult) has a choice not to go to the house. Some of them drive 2-3 hours just to get there. So they aren't really being persuaded, just invited. Whether or not they go is their own choice
