QUOTE (impala454 @ Sep 20 2006, 01:44 PM) ok... so what is this so-called inaccurate information? and what did the american officials do to mislead canadian authorities about their "plans" for the guy? it looks to me like the guy simply was shady enough to get deported, and it looks like he was deported completely legally. what happens to someone who gets deported when they arrive in their home country has nothing to do with us. Ok... perhaps I'm missing something. I've read 3 or 4 articles on the subject and I have yet to see a perfectly legal reason to deport him. Would you care to shed light on what it is? -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! You know the edit button saves lives, right? The key word in your post is SUSPECTED. Is it reason to be suspicious? Maybe. Is it reason enough to deport him to a third world country to be beaten and tortured? Not at all. QUOTE and the people that cry about this guy and his situation will be the same ones crying "why didn't we have better security?!??!" when the next attack comes. You're an idiot. We don't have to deport innocent people to third world countries to prevent terror attacks. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! He's from a third world country!
What is your suggestion(s) for making this country safer? People being suspicious sounds like a damn good reason for an investigation and deportation isn't that bad, especially if he's deported back to the country he came from (one that doesn't have the best relations with us and seems to be in bed with the terrorists) -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

He was living in Canada at the time. No, this wasn't a simple deportation. This was an Extraordinary Rendition. QUOTE It has been reported that the CIA, often using covert aircraft leased by front companies, has flown individuals to countries including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Most of the states to which the USA transfers these individuals are known to use torture and other ill-treatment in interrogations. It is alleged that states which are known to practise torture have been specifically selected to receive detainees for interrogation and that detainees have been threatened by US interrogators that they will be sent to such states. http://web.amnesty.org/library/index/engpol300032006 There's your source. Is it just me or does it seem to everyone else that Bush was starting to want to get tough on Syria one day and then all of a sudden shut up about it the next? I don't necessarily believe everything that Amnesty International says, but that's because of their history with Israel and some of the things they've reported and then turned out to not be true. When did Bush get friendly with Syria? As far as I know he has been pretty firm with them, especially after the invasion of Iraq when they failed to secure their own border. We've been even more firm with them trying to keep insurgents from moving freely in and out of their borders. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

QUOTE (pebkac @ Sep 20 2006, 02:18 PM) gimme a fuckin break... a bunch of hearsay from amnesty international?? QUOTE It has been reported that the CIA, often using covert aircraft leased by front companies, has flown individuals to countries including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Syria. where's this report? QUOTE 4. Does Amnesty International accept US claims that "rendition" is legal? Amnesty International believes that these practices are illegal because they bypass any judicial or administrative process such as extradition. Under international law, it is illegal to transfer people from one country to another without any kind of judicial or administrative process. hmm... well I'm glad I know how amnesty international feels about the subject. QUOTE 5. According to Amnesty International estimates, how many people have been victims of "rendition"? Based on the available evidence, the number is likely to be in the hundreds. hmm... so not only is this also some bs number they came up with, even if it was true, we're talking about a total of "hundreds". we're talking about sending foreigners home (where God knows what happens to them) vs. protecting thousands, possibly millions of american lives. QUOTE 7. Where are these "black sites"? Amnesty International has received persistent reports that the USA operates, or has operated, secret detention centres in Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and other unknown locations in Europe and elsewhere, including on the British Indian Ocean territory of Diego Garcia. again... where are these reports? these people seem to get lots of "reports" about things they represent as fact. |

Then will the New Yorker work for you? http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?050214fa_fact6 QUOTE A year later, in October, 2003, Arar was released without charges, after the Canadian government took up his cause. Imad Moustapha, the Syrian Ambassador in Washington, announced that his country had found no links between Arar and terrorism. Arar, it turned out, had been sent to Syria on orders from the U.S. government, under a secretive program known as “extraordinary rendition.†This program had been devised as a means of extraditing terrorism suspects from one foreign state to another for interrogation and prosecution. Critics contend that the unstated purpose of such renditions is to subject the suspects to aggressive methods of persuasion that are illegal in Americaâ€â€including torture.
