Call a true Christian a Catholic, and they'll look at you like you're a fucktard. And vice-versa. Trust me I know plenty of both, I'm not just defending one or the other.
They're seperate religions built on the same foundation, but they have very different ideas about salvation. Since salvation is pretty much a fundamental idea in Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, etc etc, saying they're the same if they have different ideas about salvation is, well, retarded. Try reading up on "sola scriptura" and the "five solas". Christianity --------> Jesus Catholicism ----------> a bunch of bullshit rituals/obstacles aka The Roman Church ------> Jesus Judiasm and Islam both come from the same foundation..... would you say Jews and Muslims are the same? No, I wouldn't either. That would be fucktardedness. They both believe in God, but have very different views about how you reach God. Thus they are blatantly different religions, nobody would argue that. So if catholics and christians differ over how you go about reaching God, saying they're the same is laughable. Catholics aren't christian, and christians aren't catholic. It's that simple. There's no misconception. baptist, protestant, methodist, blah blah etc etc = denominations of Christianity. Catholicism = a seperate church. They'll admit this readily. They're not a denomination of Christianity. (the more you know)

...wow.
By that argument, a lot of Christians aren't actually Christian. Christianity is defined by one thing: The saviour of the world is Jesus Christ. In order to be saved by said person, one must confess and accept him as such. Praying = ritual Easter celebration = ritual (both my baptist and "non-denominational" church had some pretty wacky celebrations). Just because Catholicism has you doing things differently than some other denominations doesn't take away from it actually being Christian. I mean, if you wanted to say it that way, we might as well say that Calvinistic Denomination's aren't Christian at all because of Predestination and TULIP. Or that Southern Baptist's aren't either because they don't allow dancing. -------------------- ![]() |

Oh, and let's not forget the Othordox Christians or the Lutherans. I mean, they're so vastly different than the Catholic church...

The main thing that separates Christians and Catholics is the fact that Catholics do not believe in salvation (some do, but the Church as a whole does not). Instead, they believe in good works and Hail Mary's will get them out of purgatory (another thing that Christians don't subscribe to).
Paul never intended these things of the Christian Church and as the Church evolved it split into separate entities with the Catholic side being much more political (Constantine anyone?). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
