First off, My laptop: I have an HP ze4800. My laptop is designed so that whenever I unplug my laptop from the external power source, it dims slightly so as to save power. Well, I will have it plugged in and the screen will dim and brighten over and over whenever the laptop is moved meaning that the cable is going bad. Well, the problem is that the other day, I unplugged my laptop from the power cord and the power cord insert was so hot that it burned my hand and now its like that all the time. Parts of the inside of the power cord melted and it makes it very difficult to remove the cord from the laptop and to plug it back in. This to me seems like a fire hazard so I went online to see if there were any recalls. The battery packs for some of the ze4800's (among others) have been recalled because they cause parts to melt which could lead to a fire. When I typed in my battery number, they said that my specific laptop battery (even though its a ze4800 battery) did not qualify for a replacement. So this makes me wonder. Could the power cable problem have anything to do with the battery being defective? Because if so, Im going to call HP. I dont want to sound like a dumb bitch though if the two problems are unrelated.
Second Question: Do you guys know of any good computer programs that are free to download that will convert from MP3 to WMA and still maintain the original MP3 version. My stupid phone music player only accepts WMA format files and I dont want to convert my MP3's to WMA permanently because some quality will be lost. I want to maintain that original file. Thanks for any help. This post has been edited by Jessica: Aug 28 2006, 02:21 PM |

to answer #2, if you have a cd with the mp3 on it, it can be ripped onto the computer with musicmatch jukebox into mp3, wav, mp3pro, and wma.

Do you know if it was the DC or AC part of the power cable? The battery could be discharging into the DC side of the cable when the power goes out. This would create a short and get really hot because the battery can supply a lot of amps. The supply itself can only supply soo much, but if shorted might have enough current to casue a problem.

QUOTE (Spectatrix @ Aug 29 2006, 12:10 PM) Toshiba sucks too. honestly, I wouldnt buy a Compaq (hp), an HP, a sony vaio (fucking way overpriced), or a dell. Seeing as how I dont want to spend that much on a laptop (bye bye Alienware) I dont think Toshiba is all that bad. Honestly tell me what doesnt suck and is decently priced as far as laptops go. I dont think you will have an answer to that. I'll take what I was given, but I would have preferred a Toshiba because from what I KNOW about them they are decent laptops. |

I prefer Toshibas for several reasons. I want Christine to explain what laptops are elite for a decent price and why they are. |
