Might have 'em check the AC filters. The ones in my step-bro's apartment got clogged up (they'd accidentally put in anti-allergy ones, which get dirty more quickly) and it just about doubled their electricity bill.

I havent bought new shoes in 3 years. I have 4 pairs of shoes total. I did have to buy work clothes and that cost some money. I dont buy expensive stuff either. Pants usually cost like $15 and shirts about $12. I have to dress business professional everyday though so I had to pretty much buy a new wardrobe. For someone working at mcdonalds, though, I guess they wont need that much. Problem is, they dont need to look like a damn bum either so thats why I said $60 every 2 months. Thats only $30/ mo. I think thats pretty reasonable. Thats a pair of jeans and a shirt a month.

As for the electricity thing, I live in Austin. I have been told our electricity is higher priced here. I never have the lights on, I dont have a washer or dryer, and I dont have cable so my tv is never on. Additionally, I hardly ever cook. My thermostat for my AC is usually set to 80 degrees. My bills have been $106 and some change for the past two months in a row.

no, im saying that they should be able to dress nice if they want to. Im currently wearing a pair of jeans from the 9th grade.... my point was that $60 every 2 months isnt an unreasonable amount to spend on clothes. Quit being dumb and over analyzing the clothes thing. fine, you can substitute the clothes money for some other specialty like getting the newspaper which is 12.50 a month and having a few drinks here and there.

the general point of all this is that people say they are "no brainer" jobs, but in all actuality its the manual labor and service jobs that pay like shit...you know, the jobs that keep our society running and allow us to be able to have fast meals at places like mcdonalds.

There are plenty of free entertainment venues out there if someone is willing to look for it. Hell, the library rents out movies even.


Also, dumbasses can easily get promoted to management positions in McDonald's. It doesn't take much to move up there.

Explain how it is fair that prices on everything (gas, stamps, food, clothes, etc) has gone up but not minimum wage. When $5.15 was put into affect the cost of living was significantly lower than it is now.

You are looking at this all wrong. You suspect that every person that works at mcdonalds will get promoted to management. Not true. I worked with lower income kids with mental handicaps and I myself also have a sibling with a mental handicap. They usually get hired at fast food restaurants and are damn good workers, but lack the social skills or the complex thinking skills to move into management. Soon, the cost of living will be so high that there will be no point in them even working. They wont be able to get by.

You're right in that regard, Jessica. The minimum wage should be increased according to inflation at least... by that measure, it should be about $6.75/hr now.

Not to mention that the average worker makes less than the minimum wage 30 years ago when you adjust for inflation.

I do have to admit that your electricity estimate is high. Jim and I have a TV, DVD player, 2 computers that are on most of the time, AC... and our electricity usually runs between $60 and $80.

Oh, and I haven't spent even $100 in the last year on clothes, even considering that I bought a $40 pants suit last weekend. I haven't bought new socks in years, new underwear only every couple of years, shoes last me at least two years...
