QUOTE (Jessica @ Jul 29 2006, 12:13 PM) When I worked for LISD, I worked with some 18 year olds that looked, acted, and talked just like us but couldnt even write their own name. Some couldnt even spell it. Sad situation all around. They wanted to learn so badly, but had severe learning disabilities. These are the kind of people that will probably make about minimum wage their whole life and they cant control it. and we should give them more money because............. trying really really hard is still a failure if you don't succeed -------------------- |

minimum wage is just that...minimum wage. it's not required that you must start an employee at 5.15, just says you can't start below, but you can choose to pay higher. there are states that raise min wage level.
QUOTE what a crock of shit. i've never run across any nurse, bank teller, call center worker, or even cook job/worker that made "minimum wage". word -------------------- |

Even my most craptastic jobs didn't pay minimum wage, despite the fact that I had no experience (in-store at Papa John's and hostess at Logan's Roadhouse). I made 6.15 and 6.50, respectively. The only minimum wage job I've had was grading papers for the math department at TX State.
How is it, pray tell, that I could find jobs above min wage with no experience in those areas, but people who have been working fast food for years can't rise above 5.15? It's complete BS. Hell, there are plenty of fast food jobs out there that start at 6.50 or 7/hr. How anyone feels trapped by minimum wage is beyond me. -------------------- |
