http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/07/28/min...e.ap/index.html

I think that's absoloutley fucking brilliant that the Republicans called bullshit on the whole Democrats supporting a minimum wage increase like that smile.gif

Here's why:

If I'm a multimillionair, it's my mother fucking money that *I* earned, that *I* can decide if I want to let my heirs take over. It isn't any of the fucking government's money. They've already taxed me on this money with the income taxes I paid on it, there is no reason whatsoever to double tax me if I die and my children take over my estate. In fact, it's complete bullshit.

Now, let's say I'm a manager and I have people working for me.

There is a damned good reason I pay these people minimum wage: They're horrible employees. They come to work late, stoned, drunk, leave early, and generally don't get a fucking thing done. They do not do skilled work, they do not partake in skilled labor, and are generally speaking, horrible employees.

The people I hire who are NOT horrible employees generally do not stay as minimum wage employees past their 90 day evaluation period, providing they do good work and are not stoned all the time like the rest of the other minimum wage worthless employees are.

Now, the Democrats, who in essense are trying to scrape up votes from the bottom-of-the-barrel citizens in the country, who, no matter how politically incorrect it may be to say this, are fucking worthless, hence the reason they only make minimum wage ... are clamoring on and on and on about how horrible the Republicans are for not wanting to double-tax somone who effecticley has earned his or her fucking keep in life.

Needless to say, as I'm being a manager here, that if I kick up the wages for my most worthless employees $2 an hour, that effectivley means I have to raise the wages of EVERY OTHER FUCKING EMPLOYEE in my company, because you sure as hell can't have the pothead with the bad attitude who makes $5.15 an hour making more than somone whose worked for me a year and earned that $2 an hour raise I gave them...

From the Oprah link I posted in another thread
QUOTE
Most people think low-wage workers are teenagers or high-school dropouts…but that's not the case, Beth says. "They're adults like the rest of us trying to take care of their families," Beth says. "Most have a high school degree—many have college degrees. It's every mom and dad in America."

Another misconception is that low-wage workers are "lazy." While Morgan and Alex were living on minimum wage for 30 Days, they experienced just the opposite. "I worked harder bussing tables than at any desk job I ever had," Alex says.

From a different interview with the author from that Oprah link
QUOTE
A common misconception is that low-wage jobs are only found in your neighborhood McDonalds. Yet, fast-food jobs constitute less than 5 percent of all low-wage jobs. Low-wage jobs are nurse's aides and home health aides, security guards, child care workers and educational assistants maids and porters, 1-800 call-center workers, bank tellers, data-entry keyers, cooks, food-preparation workers, waiters and waitresses, cashiers and pharmacy assistants, poultry, fish and meat processors, laundry and dry cleaning operators and agricultural workers. They are jobs in the mainstream of our economy and our lives. Another misconception about low-wage jobs is that they are low-skilled. Most economists, politicians and the media marry the two terms as if they were inseparable. Yet, taking care of a sick parent or educating a child is anything but low-skilled. And there is a misconception about who the 30 million Americans are who work in low-wage jobs. Many presume they are teenagers, illegal immigrants, or high-school dropouts. Yet contrary to these stereotypes, America's low-wage workers are mostly white, female, high school educated, and with family responsibilities.

Another misconception about low-wage work is that it is merely a stepping stone to a better job. Low-wage job mobility has decreased over the last decade. In a recent study following U.S. adults through their working careers, economics professors Peter Gottschalk of Boston College and Sheldon Danziger of the University of Michigan found that about half of those whose earnings ranked in the bottom 20 percent in 1968 were still in the same group in 1991. Of those who had moved up, nearly two-thirds remained below the median income. And finally there is the misconception that low-wage jobs are merely the result of an efficient market, that the economy is a force of nature, and we as a society have little control over whatever difficulties it creates. The reality is that our economic world is the result of our creation, not natural law and we have the ability to make choices that would improve low-wage jobs.

QUOTE (kcroxyoursox @ Jul 28 2006, 09:33 PM)

what a crock of shit. i've never run across any nurse, bank teller, call center worker, or even cook job/worker that made "minimum wage".

and you can't have a middle class without a lower class. fuck em.

a high school degree means absofuckinglutely nothing today. you're expected to graduate high school-- if you don't, you've completely failed at life and should be in the lowest possible part of the pay scale. that half of the bottom 20% in 1968 probably made no effort whatsoever to improve the quality of their lives through continued or higher education in the 23 year range given, which means that the bottom 10% of the population stayed where they were. is this a surprise to anyone???????? the reason those "homeless to harvard" stories are inspirational and rare is because most of the bottom feeders stay at the bottom and blame everyone else for their failures.

ps oprah is a lesbian.

If you are too stupid and/or lazy to graduate from a public highschool I feel absolutley no pity for you and your so-called financial woes whatsoever.

All you fucking have to do to graduate from a public highschool is show up to class. They practically force diplomas at people, it sure as FUCK isn't like you have to accomplish any great feat to earn one, even if you have down syndrome....

so are the mentally "challenged", who are legally classified as retarded or disabled, expected to perform at the same level as able minded/bodied people? is that what you're asking? the people who are able to receive government assistance so they can live somewhat normal lives, are they held to the same standard as people who can function on their own mentally and/or physically?

is that a joke?

I don't think American kids as a whole are challenged the way they need to be today. I think the expectations of them are very low from the time they're born, which contributes to horrible attitudes, etc. Quite frankly I think we need to challenge even the retarded kids more than we do....

We are very rapidly becoming a nation of scientifically ililterate buffoons....

do you think a tard who is already getting government assistance deserves a $2 raise because he DIDN"T eat the children's menu crayons that one day?

When I worked for LISD, I worked with some 18 year olds that looked, acted, and talked just like us but couldnt even write their own name. Some couldnt even spell it. Sad situation all around. They wanted to learn so badly, but had severe learning disabilities. These are the kind of people that will probably make about minimum wage their whole life and they cant control it.
