the RIAA and MPAA are now heavily monitoring DC++. it's second in line only to bearshare (gnutella) and Kazaa.
don't use it. it's antiquated and retarded anywhos. also, do a little research on I2Hub. see what happened to them. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

The hub I use doesn't allow RIAA music to be shared on it, so I'm not worried.

newsgroups are definately one of the safest ways to go. that and secure anonymous FTPs, particularly the Topsites, if you can manage to get access to them. Not an easy thing to finagle. Yes, i said finagle.

See, thing is, I wouldn't know where to begin with newsgroups, much less how or what to do to get stuff

yeah it's kinda weird. it's sorta like a combination of email & forum. Most of the better newsgroup software out there makes it easy to use though. I use http://www.newsrover.com/ and it has a music search, as well as a regular file search.
in a nutshell here's how it works: 1. some guy has photoshop, chops it up into 30 files. 2. guy posts the 30 files as "messages" on the server. 3. you search for adobe photoshop, and see this guy's 30 messages 4. you download the files, which are attachments to his messages 5. unrar and you've got it. only real catch is you need to use a paid server to get the good stuff (I use http://www.easynews.com/ it's $10/month and it lets you accumulate any unused bandwidth (I currently have 400GB surplus on my account). going through the individual groups is the old way of doing it, but like i said most good software nowadays has a search feature that will auto-search through the right groups for you. cool thing is there's also tons of groups simply for forum like discussion on any topic you could think of. |
