Indie film director John Roecker tells TMZ he was walking to his car with a female friend in LA's trendy Los Feliz neighborhood last Sunday when he was approached by a shirtless man and a tall blonde. "Hey, man, you're making fun of my religion," said the stranger angrily.

Roecker quickly recognized the couple as actor Bodhi Elfman and his wife, 'Dharma and Greg' star Jenna Elfman. Mr. Elfman's ire was apparently drawn by Roecker's self-made t-shirt, which had a picture of Tom Cruise on the front under the caption "Scientology is Gay!" and a 'Stayin'-Alive'-era John Travolta on the back with the words "Very Gay!" For the record, both Cruise and Travolta have said repeatedly they are not gay.

According to Roecker, who first recounted the incident on LA's KROQ-FM's Kevin and Bean Show, the invective started to fly after he made several references to Scientology theology and its reported central tenant, the story of Xenu.

Roecker says Jenna repeatedly said "What crimes have you committed?" and began screaming at Roecker, "Have you raped a baby?" as motorists on Los Feliz Boulevard drove by in snarled traffic.

Roecker says it appears that Bodhi Elfman prepared to take a swing at him, but thought against it.

Bizarrely, Roecker also says that the Elfmans had a young, twenty-something male companion with them whom they continually instructed to move away and cover his ears whenever references to Xenu were made.

Roecker says this is not the first time he has worn a t-shirt that has provoked similar reactions from fellow devotees of L. Ron Hubbard like Juliette Lewis, Lisa Marie Presley, and actor Hal Ozman, who worked on 'Dawson's Creek' with none other than a certain Katie Holmes. Sources at the Church of Scientology's Celebrity Centre say Roecker is no stranger to them. Several non-celeb parishioners have also complained about Roecker's t-shirts.

Bodhi Elfman's rep Jenni Weinman tells TMZ that according to Bodhi "He was out for a Sunday stroll with his wife, when some guy walks by with a t-shirt on, very prominently attacking his religion. Words were extended and Bodhi and Jenna were personally attacked for their beliefs. As they went about their business, the guy continued to try to illicit negative responses from the both of them. As they walked away he continued to scream propaganda and hate at them. Apparently he spent all Monday calling the press to promote himself."

Hello Just wanted to tell you my story that happened yesterday on walking to my car on Los Feliz Blvd. I was a total innocent lamb when I was verbally attacked by three people. I was walking to my car in a t- shirt that I made that has an image of Tom Cruise and the caption says Scientology is Gay! And on the Back of the shirt is a picture of John Travolta and the caption reads Very Gay! So as I passed a shirtless Bohdi Elfman and he started screaming at me saying how dare you make fun of my church! I replied just because you have tax exempt doesn't make it a real church and the McDonald's franchise is older. Then he got really mad and said that I had no idea what I was talking about and I said I am well aware and schooled on this cult. Then Jenna started to pipe in and asked me What Crimes I had Committed? I said I have not committed any crimes. She stared at me like a zombie and said the same thing. What crimes have I committed and then said have you Raped a baby? And I looked at her and said what? She repeated. Did you Rape a baby? I shook my head and then she said you Raped a baby! I was totally blown away meanwhile her husband was screaming at me and kept on saying that the reason I was saying this was because I was a homosexual (gee how did he know) to which I said what does that have anything to do with anything if I was gay or not? I kept on asking him about Xenu and he was about to punch me but he hesitated because they were another man who when instructed by the both of them would walk away and cover his ears when I asked them about L. Ron Hubbards involvement with Alister Crowley, Xenu and the death of Lisa McPersion. After a ten minute scream session when Bohdi said all he does is help people and why was I against that and Jenna kept on asking What is my crime...I shouted I know what your crime is. You make @#%$ Television Shows. Which Jenna screamed back "@#%$ YOU"!

we were talking yesterday about scientology and celebs...

why can't celebrities just be normal catholics or methodists or hell atheists like the rest of society?

it's like they feel now that they have some kind of elevated status in society that 1. warrants them to be the spokesperson of causes and influence people, but 2. are 'better' than the normal people, thus requiring a more elevated and not commonplace religion like scientology.

let's look at this for a second...they are actors. acting. not being themselves, not the writers of their characters. just puppets.

I mean musicians have always been activists, but I have no problem with that...since they are often motivated to do what they do (write) by issues and concerns. they are more akin to philosophers IMO (not pop stars, I mean musicians).

but actors? wtf do they do except play out somebody's lines and imaginations.

I hate 'em...they've always kinda creeped me out. I dated this chick at NYU who was studying that crap at tisch (sp?) and while she was good...I could never really tell "who" she was...because it's acting.
