i think the whole thing about showing the dead body is going too far in general. its one of those things that you dont have to see to believe (based on the myriad ways the govt has proven a positive id other than it physically looking like him), and i dont think it makes the story any better.

the caption on the other hand is uncalled for and awful - imo it was meant to be humorous, but it blatantly mocks ALL individuals that follow that particular faith regardless of if their terrorists or law abiding citizens.

theyll get a lot of backlash both from the picture and the caption.

i think it's very necessary to show these pieces of shit dead. i don't think showing the body goes too far at all. people want to see them pay for what they've done. nobody will ever believe that they've killed osama until they actually see his dead ass. the caption is hilarious. i really don't think the new york post cares if they piss off more fundamentalists-- hell, this gives them an actual reason to hate us.

and they show dead iraqis on tv all the time. it's nothing new. if half of his head had been blown off, maybe it would have been too gruesome for the front page, but they have bloodier stuff on CSI every night.




but i agree that there is going to be a backlash, not because of the picture, but because we killed him. i heard a couple of "experts" (ha, everybody's an expert on tv and the internet) saying that zarqawi had been more focused on civil war than attacking american troops, so things might change now that he's gone.

Whether or not a muslim plans to die in a jihad to get virgins, it's still a part of their faith and thus offensive to mock. If I were still Catholic, I'd be offended if some newspaper showed a picture of a priest with the speech bubble "bring on the little boys" or something similar.
