AP: U.S. to Give Iran Nuclear Technology

By GEORGE JAHN
Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria

A package of incentives presented Tuesday to Iran includes a provision for the United States to supply Tehran with some nuclear technology if it stops enriching uranium _ a major concession by Washington, diplomats said.

The offer was part of a series of rewards offered to Tehran by European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, according to the diplomats, who were familiar with the proposals and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were disclosing confidential details of the offer.

The package was agreed on last week by the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia _ the five veto-wielding members of the U.N. Security Council, plus Germany, in a bid to resolve the nuclear standoff with Iran.

We supplied Saddam with weapons back in the 80s and then went to war with him in the 90s. Seems like we're doing the same thing with Iran... giving them access to weapons (in this case nukes) so we have an excuse to invade.

Not sure exactly how supplying nuclear technology = we're giving them nuclear weapons.

Iran is hell-bent on making nuclear bombs. You don't think Iran would use the nuclear technology from the U.S. to weaponize the nuclear technology?

what exactly is "nuclear technology"? they already know how to make the nukes its just they dont have the hardware.

If we dont supply it then they will find someone who can, ex-USSR is kinda missing a few and could produce the hardware. Its better to be us and throw in inspections.

This seems kind of uncharacteristic of the United States. One of the main benefits of Iran not having nuclear energy is that it keeps them economically weak. A weak economic power, is a weak power in general.

So again, my question is. How does "nuclear technology" (presumably for power plants) automatically equal weapons? Do they press a button in the plant and it transforms into a nuclear missle launch platform? I mean I dunno how the shit works.. and unless you got some nuclear physics degree on the side I'm not sure how you can make that correlation either.

We're giving Iran access to nuclear technology that they don't already have. Iran has nuclear engineers working around the clock to pop a bomb out of one of their underground factories.

Again, you don't think this new nuclear technology would be sent right to the engineers and that they wouldn't figure out how to incorporate the technology into bomb making?

Impala, you're a fucking moron. You take the opposite side of whoever posts something here. If I said the sky is blue you'd fuckin' argue that it's hot pink.

I guess you're the nuclear expert then lance. Mind describing how the process of transforming a nuclear plant into a nuclear weapon works?

you're making an assumption that I don't see as a valid assumption.

Do you have any idea what this mysterious "new technology" is?

Iran already HAS nuclear reactor -- it's at Bushehr -- so it's not like Iran doesn't know how the fuel cycle works. The process to create uranium for a reactor and uranium for a bomb aren't that dissimilar. Look it up.

iran already has nuclear capabilities, but they need a few lessons in how to control it

Didn't we supply Iran with weapons as well in the 80's? Isn't that what Regan and Ollie North were involved in?
