QUOTE
Last week, radio presenter Dan Gaffney of Delaware-based WGMD accused the band of ripping off Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He claims that the leading single from the new album, "Dani California," sounds almost identical to Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance".

QUOTE
"The chord progression, the melody, the tempo, the key, the lyrical theme... they're identical."

the red hot chili peppers need to die already. this is their 4th terrible remix of blood sugar sex magik. wow, another cd where every creepy song is about california-- what will they come up with next?

and yes, that's a total ripoff. the only difference is that the rhcp song is off key and sounds like crap

vanilla ice's lyrics weren't in sync with david bowie's, though. it also says that the overall song theme/content might as well be the same thing as tom petty's, too.

guess the riaa has spent a little too much time trying to put the american consumer in jail while their own artists were ripping each other off.

oh WOW that's totally HARDCORE what that dude in VIRGINIA did last week... nevermind that pugs and kelly noticed this almost 2 (maybe 3) months ago here in dallas (105.3)... or that opie and anthony noticed it.... or that even the more contemporary-music-disliking russ martin brought it up a few weeks ago...

those dudes in virginia are totally on the ball with this.

by the way: what you don't hear being talked about (aside from russ martin:)

highway to hell:

the lyrics sheet says "Season ticket on a one way ride"

but that sure as hell ain't what he's saying. listen and find out for yourself.

... and Tom Petty ripped off the chord progression for "last dance" from The Jayhawks' "Waiting for the Sun". Shit happens.... you could come up with 100 songs using the same chord progression.

I guess RHCP managed to write 27 songs for the album, but just couldn't muster 1 more huh? Then they decided to plagiarize a song and make it their first single, for the whole world to hear. What a diabolical scheme!

Fuck that. Stadium Arcadium is a great album.

RHCP has always been a hit and miss band to me.

They have some great songs, but they also have some that I don't deem worthy to wipe me ass with.

Im really getting tired of your "OMG THIS IS SO OLD HOW DID YOU NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS ALREADY" shit. Maybe nobody gives two shits about dallas or "pugs and kelly" from 105.3...whoever the fuck they are. NEWS FLASH: NOT EVERYONE LIVES THERE.

Yes, its too similar. Shit happens, but the Chilli Peppers need to go do old men things like read the newspaper and fall asleep in their favorite chair because music shouldnt be their business anymore.
