I'm surprised there aren't any threads yet on the World Cup. Anyway, the question speaks for itself. I say F is the hardest, followed closely by E. We're in a pretty tough group with Italy and the Czech Rep. Here are the groups:
QUOTE Group A: Costa Rica Ecuador Germany Poland Group B: England Paraguay Sweden Trinibad & Tobago Group C: Argentina Ivory Coast Netherlands Serbia & Montenegro Group D: Angola Iran Mexico Portugal Group E: Czech Republic Ghana Italy United States Group F: Australia Brazil Croatia Japan Group G: France South Korea Switzerland Togo Group H: Saudi Arabia Spain Tunisia Ukraine Also, who do you think or want to win each group? I'd like: Germany, England, Argentina, Mexico, USA, Brazil, South Korea, Spain but think this will happen: Poland, England, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, France, Spain. championship prediction: Brazil, of course. Runner-up: Italy This post has been edited by jonathan83: Jun 1 2006, 10:42 AM -------------------- ![]() |

Most consider group E to be the Group of Death, based on average team rank and that they have 3 top 15 teams.
Group C is a close second with powerhouses Argentina and Netherlands |

Brazil and Italy (if they meet) will meet in the Round of 16 or 8, not the final.
Group E is clearly the best, but F is strong as well ... neither group has a weak team. Germany is hosting and underrated, a dangerous combination. It's been forgotten, but Poland smashed the United States at Japorea'02 ... Italy thinks they got screwed in '02 (Italy is right) so they'll be out for some revenge. The Czechs are an unknown quantity -- tons of talent but their last World Cup was as Czechoslovakia in 1990 ... France will out for revenge just like Italy, and South Korea are the most cohesive team in the tournament ... all the talk has been about who Holland ISN'T taking to the tournament, but they're loaded like always. Group A: Poland, Germany ... Group B: England, Sweden ... Group C: Holland, Argentina ... Group D: Portugal, Iran... Group E: Czech Republic, Italy ... Group F: Brazil, Croatia ... Group G: France, South Korea ... Group H: Spain, Ukraine Final: Brazil and Holland Edit: I replaced Mexico with Iran as my second team from Group D. |

Every soccer fan in the English-speaking world refers to 2002 as the Japorea World Cup. Would you be happier if we called it the Kopan World Cup?
I understand that most of Korea is still pretty touchy about the whole hundreds-of-years-of-colonial-domination-and-human-rights-abuses-and-attempts-to-exterminate-Hangul-and-the-Korean-race thing, but in 2006, I think the ROK and Japan should reevaluate and worry about bigger problems (North Korea, China, etc) |
