xanga now scans your xanga and gives it a rating... if it finds cuss words on it it gives you an explicit rating and people have to enter their credit card number in order to verify their age before they can read your xanga

the only reason i liked the xanga blogging service is because you can insert javascript on your page... livejournal doesn't allow that so now we're stuck with nothing but sucky ass journal sites
no good ones are left |

Um, Xanga doesn't scan shit. You self-rate your own site. Did you even read John's announcement about it on the Xanga home page?
The system does need some kinks worked out... I don't think the age verification via credit card # is gonna fly. Here's what I said: QUOTE I like the idea of a ratings system, but I disagree with its usage as a "net nanny" sort of thing. I think that users should be able to rate their own blog and set their browsing preferences, but I don't think that anybody should be restricted by Xanga from viewing other sites simply because they've decided to rate themselves EX.
1) Not everyone 18+ has a credit card or is willing to give Xanga their credit card information. 2) Minors, if they really want to, can easily use their parent's credit cards to "verify" their age. 3) It is the responsibility of the parents, not Xanga, to monitor their children's browsing activities. So, what I would suggest is... 1) Keep a ratings sytem in place. 2) Make the rating visible someplace on people's blogs, in their profiles, alongside their profile pic in blogrings, etc. 3) Make it all voluntary (default setting of "Unrated") 4) Get rid of the age verification, for the aforementioned reasons. So that's just my 2 cents... -------------------- |
