Undoubtedly you have all heard about the Democrat Congressman taking a $100,000 dollar bribe and storing the money in his freezer and the subsequent FBI raid on his office.

One would believe that the Republicans would be jumping all over this opportunity to smear Democrats; however, Republicans and Democrats are coming together in an unprecedented collaborative effort to oppose the FBI ever searching the offices of Congressmen (Democrats and Republicans) ever again.

This makes you wonder... what do Republicans and the rest of Congress (Democrats included) have to hide? Massive corruption in Congress?

Lance, aren't you against wiretapping and things of the like? You may have nothing to hide, but you are still against it correct? This is the same principle.

What you are basically saying is that you want wiretapping and warrantless raids on anyone but you.

The FBI had a warrant to raid the Congressman's office. I have no problem with raids when authorities go through the proper channels and get a judge's approval.

What I do have a problem with is warrantless wiretapping, warrantless searches & seizures, and warrantless anything.

In this case everything the feds did was compeletely legal. What this is about is Congress thinking that federal laws applies to the normal American citizens and not to them. This elitist behavior from Congress disgusts me.

Know what you're talking about from now on before you try to call me out.

It's not elitist, it's called prevention of another Watergate. I don't agree with what the congressman did, but when we start tapping people's phones and raiding there government offices, especially if ordered from someone higher up *cough*the president*cough* then we'll have problems. These guys are keeping their butts in the clear. I think that since he refused to turnover the requested information then he had every right to be raided. But what if it goes beyond that? What if the FBI just starts raiding offices without asking for the information first? 1984.

And just for the record, I never said the feds went in without a warrant, I just said that's what you want. Just for clarification.

I was being facetious. Jabbing at you, that's all.

My point still stands though. We have to be careful where we let this thing go, otherwise it will be a true police state at some point.

FYI, Watergate was a burglary of the Democratic National Committee’s office ordered by President Nixon.

This is the FBI legally getting a search warrant to raid a corrupt congressman's office.

How are you drawing comparisons between these two totally different things?

Might want to read more on Watergate. It was not just a burglary, it was also the wiretapping of the offices. Most of the men involved were in the CIA. This same thing could have been done by the FBI.

Yes, the FBI had a warrant, and they were justfied in this case. However, where the lines get blurred is when the FBI starts getting warrants, raiding offices, etc. off of hunches. What if someone turns over the requested information and still gets raided? We have to be careful is all that I'm saying.

god damn, this is why i'm going to stop voting

politicans aren't in it for the american people, they're in it for themselves.

money/power/fame is all they give a fuck about, showing how they are more important than the people they're suppose to represent

the only time shit ever gets done is when it's 'an election year'. then they start talking like they give a shit.
