They passed legistlation in Arizona that would make it legal for university students to opt out of assigned readings that they find personally offensive or pornographic. I always thought testing your boundaries and being exposed to ideas that you don't agree with was part of the college experience. -------------------- death to false dudes

They haven't passed the legislation yet -- it's been approved by a senate committee, but has yet to go to the full senate.

Being exposed to an idea is one thing, having to read crap like "he shoves his member down her throat" or some crap like the Cindy Sheehan book for a grade is a different thing altogether.

I do believe there are limits, but where do you draw the line when everything is grey? not like there is an ESRB for books |

You don't have to draw a line, you have to be able to see what you can learn from the material. If the professor can tell me what I'll learn from reading Cindy Sheehan's chickenscratch, fine. Some of the trash profs have you read though seems more to me like them just tryin to force their opinions on you than some kind of learning material.

what about profs who you just can't stand and find it offensive
for example: i had an english prof for fiction who EVERY story, was releated to female empowerment. i shit you not, it was never anything the woman did wrong, it was always the man. not only the sotry, but discussions in the story. the class became stupid & students didn't care for her -------------------- |
