um yeah, i agree with stephan and jessica. israel is more powerful than many people realize. i mean, this stuff is all biblical. even if you arent religious, you have to acknowledge still that the bible basically talked about all this, and about how there will never be peace in that region, and how israel has and will always win.

Ah, the bible and it's absolutes.... I doubt there will always be war there just like I doubt Israel will always win. And in a nuclear war (which it would probably degrade to in that region if they basically had it all out), would any nation truly "win"? -------------------- |

isreal doesn't need population to wipe the floor with ANY country around it. They have better intelligence gathering ability than most any other countries. Not to mention the weaponry, training, and balls to use in regards to that intel. Iran will not get a nuke for a long time... they just started weaponizing the stuff... still years away from a bomb, isreal wouldn't let them get that far anyhow.
oh, and they already kicked the asses of every country around them... and they have better toys today... They would sure as hell take that part of the world with them if they went. which, hey, more reason for me to like them. |

In addition, I dont care who "starts" the war... Im pretty sure the US would back Israel especially in de-arming Iran. To be honest, if a major war breaks out in the Middle East, I could see it potentially becoming another world war. The only thing is, I dont see many European countries joining in on the war. The biggest reason there hasnt been another world war is because of Europe's fear of another one. She was hit bad with 1 & 2. However, we are dealing with a whole different region of the world in this case. I can see Iran bringing in other countries to war against Israel and there is no way that the US is going to sit back and let all these countries gang up on Israel (not that Israel cant hold her own). We will join in and try to bring as many countries in with us as possible. I dont know. Its all speculation. Maybe it wont since we arent dealing with any dictatorships that are trying to conquer the world. Im just thinking, though, about what will happen IF Iran gets to talking to North Korea or China. THAT could be bad news.

THAT could be bad news. We sat on our thumbs and did basically nothing (besides sanctions) to North Korea. We'll probably do the same to Iran. I want diplomacy to work, but it may take much more than just words to deal with a regime that calls for nations to be "wiped off the map." Yet, I feel due to our current commitments elsewhere, we are not presently capable to deal with another major military engagement. Public sentiment would certainly not allow it, and a draft could become a reality. ![]() I can see how another multi-state war in the Middle East would draw in several countries, regardless of their opinion on the Israeli/Arab conflict as a whole. They'd basically act in a neo-realist fashion, security being their main concern. Turkey would most certainly get involved, and that would most likely draw in Eastern Europe (and then escalate West). Iran is close to Pakistan/India, and I'm sure they'd love to kick their fued to the next level. And then let's not forget China, right there with a front seat to the action! Oh, and those Ruskies share a border with them, more fun stuff! Worst case scenario for it to escalate that far, I know. But when you're dealing with a region that is so fragile, you have to be prepared for the worst. -------------------- |

Not because of geography as much as the mere supply of oil being disturbed. All countries would be viaing for the rights to use whatever oil they could get their hands on... and thus conflict. |
