So yeah, I just moved to Austin and I dont know anyone here at all except for Rocky and Will. I have a job that I start at tomorrow, but I work with a bunch of 30 and 40 year old guys from what I understand. Anyone know of some ways to get involved in community activities or something so that I can get out and meet people? I would like to make some friends that are girls so going to the bar dressed like a slut (not that I would ever do that) is out of the question since I dont want to pick up any lesbians either. My mom suggested going to church to meet people, but I just think thats her evil plot to get me to start going to church again. Id like to avoid that. Also, any of you all going to be coming here soon?

Ryan has the right idea, go to music events and meet people, or hell, go to a local coffee shop or something. Be a regular somewhere.

i feel pathetic asking for help on how to meet people on a message board. it just kinda sucks because well, ive never had to make an effort to meet people. I grew up in El Paso so I knew people from school. When I moved to Lubbock, I lived in the dorms and they had planned activities. I feel so lost

We are going to have a happy hour after work, (ironically at 45th and Lamar...hahaha) on the 19th. You are more than welcome to join. Mostly older people from work i imagine, but there are some young folk too. I call us young people the Youth Group.
Also, upcoming Rocky events that you are welcome to join in and there are lots of people around but I doubt you'd be terribly interested ? -May 20th, Chaos in Tejas. It's a 3 day punk/hardcore concert series, but I'm only goin on that Saturday night cause motherfuckin TRAGEDY is playing. At emo's -May 27th , Saturday house show. Harsh noise ! Im goin to see and meet a dude from a msg board who is performing - June 3rd, Saturday night death metal show down on east Riverside. Band from New York is touring with a big band from Germany. id suggest what greg said. become a regular somewhere. austin has a lot of cool places to check out frequently and become a part of. theres pretty much always some of the same crowd at any specific genres of music's shows. but id think just tagging along with will and rocky and meeting mutual friends will be the easiest. if you get desperate register and take a class at UT/ACC in your spare time
