hey how does a website (w/ a member forum) make money?
is it amount of clicks? is it ads? I am totally ignorant on this. in particular...military.com I have been a member there for years. Now it seems that it has been bought out by monster.com and they have civilians running it and deleting avatars that are deemed inappropriate by someone? I mean they aren't in violation of the user's agreement, but say a girl in a bikini gets deleted because some dude doesnt like it? wtf is that? also they are banning long-time salty ass war dogs. yes these guys may be total YOU WERENT IN THE NAM!!! assholes, but fuck dude...they belong there more than PC McCivie pants. you know what I'm saying? basically I am tired of these fucks and curious as to how they make their money...because me and some other long time members want to pull some shit. first thing though is...how do they generate revenue? |

The main ways a website makes money is either by advertising or selling something.
Just took a quick look at their website and it looks like they make all their money through advertising, marketing services, sponsorships, consumer research etc... Also they make money through charging employers for job postings and recruiting. http://www.military.com/AboutUs/1,14363,au...nfo.htm,00.html |

our moderator already emailed them:
QUOTE For whatever reason, this individual:
Vince Patton, Ed.D. MCPOCG, USCG Retired Director, Community Outreach Military Advantage / Monster Worldwide and the actual owner of Military.Com: Christopher P. Michel Founder Military Advantage, Inc Found it necessary to direct: Roberto E. Rodriguez Discussion Forums Administrator to delete all Avatars that are deemed inappropriate. Mr. Roduguez asked the lead Moderator for each of the different branches to take action. I replied with an e-mail in which I stated: This is my concern, without specific reference to a posted rule, guideline or section of the Users Agreement which the identified Avatar is clearly in violation of, I am reluctant to take any action. Why? Well... think this through for a moment... there are a number of Avatars which can be considered by some as questionable, but.... while being questionable... are they in violation of some written policy or rule? If we start selectively deleting, or restricting some avatars while others are untouched, the question will be raised, by what standard are we evaluating the appropriateness of avatars? Respectfully Brian Hicks MSgt USMC Retired aka GunnyHicks, Moderator-Marine Discussion Forums It was then determined that only the Forum Administrator had the ability to modify/change/delete other members avatars, and he has subsequently taken that action. In all honesty... this is just another of several episodes which have made me once again re-evaluate my desire to continue as a Moderator for these folks. |

so basically they aren't making money by us clicking around on the website? or are they?
I don't want to inadvertantly make these guys richer. seems to me they are just trying to leech the mil community. |

If you're clicking through on the forum and website you prob won't be giving them any money, just don't click on their advertisements.
If a private commercial company bought military.com then you can be 100% sure that they're just in it for the money. |
