just curious but what exactly is prefetching?

in a nutshell, prefetching is following and downloading the pages linked in a web page while you view the web page. That way, when the user clicks on the link, the page loads from cache rather than the site, speeding up browsing. The downside is that there is very little in the way of rules telling it what to prefetch and what not to. If you're on a work pc and you're browsing something like fark.com, you'd prolly be better to turn it off than to explain that you didn't actually visit any of those boobies links.

by default firefox only prefetches links on a webpage that the webpage author explicitly marked to be prefetched, looks something like this:

firefox doesn't automatically prefetch all links unless you install fasterfox (a popular firefox extension which tweaks firefox settings to prefetch all pages)

I could run my computer without a hard drive, but it wouldn't be much use. I could also run my hard drive without my computer (usb enclosure), but that wouldn't do me a lot of good either.

I have shut down explorer.exe to have it turn back on while browsing. Happened all the time.
